Recently added Borla touring system to new 2024 5.3 Tahoe z71 - big mistake- gas mileage has declined- and noise level way higher than expected- had added K&N air filter some time before adding Borla - everything ran well - but adding the Borla threw everything into tailspin- Can’t say Borla has been any help - thinking of adding resonators to system but don’t know if that will be of help - anyone out there been down similar road - really like my Tahoe but Borla changed everything

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

Pics of the truck, please.

Yes, changing mufflers to obtain a different sound can be a crap shoot at best. You never know what you got for sure, until it is fully installed. I believe that a resonator will reduce the sound volume, but it may also change the tone of the sound, which you may or may not like, either.

IMO, changing a muffler should not change your gas mileage, so I don't believe that they are directly related to each other. Is it possible that something got disconnected during the muffler conversion?

Confirm if your oxygen sensors were properly replaced...... Do have any warnings on your dash? A K&N filter won't change your mileage much ... A Borla exhaust will just make your truck louder, but not much of a mileage difference that you seem to think is much worse. The biggest gas mileage improvement is your foot on the gas peddle. Check for codes!!

Forgot to add - no warning lights - just watched video on o2 sensor replacement- have to assume Borla provided place for number 4 downstream sensor - will crawl under it tomorrow and see if I can see #4 - don’t know what could have been done to damage it

My memory is, ( on my '05 Yukon)..... The downstream O2 sensors rarely effect drive-ability that much, as you are concerned with your ride, even if it throws a code..

Got underneath today - the o2 sensors left and right are in the catalytic converters and not in the pipe - which confuses me even more - when the shop installed the Borla system they could not have disturbed the o2 sensors - I am totally confused on the matter - installing the Borla system somehow someway was very bad for my truck - live and learn I guess

I added a dual Corsa cat back exhaust to my 23 Tahoe. The slight increase in noise only when I Rev high was exactly what I wanted. Slight decrease in mileage as I use sport mode and more throttle now. I had to change the rear lower bumper cover to a 24 High Country to fit the dual tips through. I now have great sound when I want and looks great! I too figure this be my last vehicle so this was a great add. You might want to think about changing the system if your not happy.

I appreciate your input - you would think at 76 I would have learned to leave well enough alone - I really liked the Tahoe until I started tinkering with it - everyone tells me my gas mileage loss is a heavy foot- can assure you that is not the case - going to stop pouring money down the hole and just live with my self created mess - thanks everyone

the big pedal is by far the biggest mpg denominator, regardless. this goes for any gas powered vehicle. the more you push the more it drinks

^^^^^x2^^^^^ And, if you are hearing the 'new sound' with any frequency (and if you aren't, then you truly wasted your money on the exhaust system), then you are using more foot on the gas pedal, resulting in lower MPG. Action =====>>>>> Reaction

Exactly! When it sounds better you are more likely to hit that throttle!

Throw a x pipe on there if it’s true duels
Or throw a resonator on there to help tone it down l.
I’ve only got resonators on my Tahoe… Longtubes no cats x pipe true duels to duel corsa pro resonators and axle dumped 7” tips and it sounds wicked but I’m thinking about putting some spintech mufflers on it to change the sound some more so it sounds more like a Camaro or corvette would..

Get yourself an electric cutout and put stock stuff back on. Then you can open wide or tune it somewhere in between.

Interesting post. I got a Corsa Cat Back and love the sound. That said, I’m not reviving more or driving more sporty by any means. Nonetheless, I believe my mpg got pretty worse. On my test drive I averaged 24ish mpg on highway. Never seen that since then. Happy, if I see 21mpg. I was assuming mpg will go up not down as the exhaust is supposed to be lighter

Truer words have not been spoken…
Failure to “leave well enough alone” can haunt you for a long time…. My better 1/2 wants no “aftermarket improvements” done on her vehicle… so stock it stays (until I suffer the inevitable moment of weakness)
