No compression in Cylinder 6. Worth rebuilding a 200k mile engine?

Just as the title says really. Check engine light is flashing and the code is for P0306 misfire and the MAP. I’m assuming the intake valve is either stuck, bent, or dropped. Mechanic said it’ll need a new engine. Anyone think it’s worth doing on that old of a car? The cost would definitely be more than it’s worth in good condition.

Go find a junkyard motor, check compression and plop her in. Can find 5.3s for around $500-800

Definitely considering it. Forgot to mention, engine is a 6.0l coming out of an 2002 Escalade

Oh. In that case, you’re probably looking at $1200-1800 in the junkyard. I’d say do a rebuild, depending on the cost. Where are you located?

Oh, couldn’t help with costs over there. In GA that probably would run around 2k for a rebuild

I have a feeling it’s similar here. Most shops are $100+ an hour, and it’s a pretty big job. I’d attempt it, but I don’t have the cherry picker and other tools

It’d be a good time to invest. Buying the tools and doing it yourself would save some money or have it come out about the same but now you have more tools. You could even skip in a mild cam and a tune while you’re in there for just a little more
