I am new to this forum, figured I'd take a moment to indroduce myself and post a few picks of the current ride.

My current ride is an 07 GMS Sierra 1500 Extended Cab w/Factory 20's, however it is due up on lease in July. So since the lease is up and I am tired of the payment I decided to buy a used Suburban to avoid the payment. I picked up a used 2001 Suburban on eBay for $4600. It has high miles (165,000) but since I work out of my home office, I don't put on a ton of miles. By starting out with such a cheap truck, it allows me to put the money into making it "my own", instead of buying a prestine one for $9k-$11k. So the history on the truck is it has been in Florida up until last year, it was then in PA. So it has only seen 1-2 winters, so the body is rust free. The interior is pretty rough. The carpet is terribly stained and stinks, the leather seats (especially the driver side) are showing signs of wear. The exterior has some dings and scratches....

So far I have put a set of 18" Escalade wheels/tires on it (picked up used for $500). I ordered new carpet & floor mats ($310), and fatmat sound deadning ($130). Also ordered custom fit covers for all 3 rows of seats ($620) from gtcovers.com. Since we do a lot of boating, we frequently jump in with wet swimsuits on, so for seat covers I went with a simulated 2-tone leather (light gray w/dark gray ostrich pattern for inserts). I already went to the junk yard and picked up an 03+ radio/hvac bucket and plan to purchase a denali dash bezel. This will allow me to install my Pioneer AVIC D3. Also have plans of putting in one of the Blue US Speedo Escalade gauge kits. Eventually I have plans of fixing all the little dings and scratchs and repainting. I plan on putting new ball joints, tie rods, shocks, brakes, etc. So when I do that I plan on dropping it a few inches. I can't get too crazy as I tow our 26' offshore boat frequently during the summers, plus this will be my everyday vehicle. Below is a pic of what I am starting with and a pic after the Escalade wheels. I also included a pic of my previous custom SUV. All work including Engine/paint/etc was done by me. I have no intentions of getting that crazy with this one. The blazer ran 12.6s 1/4 mile....

Since you plan on towing, how's your tranny? You seem to have a quite a bit of knowledge already, so just curious how you checked out the tranny on your new ride. Oh, and congrats of course. Nothing like molding it yourself.

I p[lan on dropping it a bit. I'd like to keep the back about 1"=2" higher than the rear like it is now. So I am thinking maybe goind 3" lower both front and rear. The Blazer in the pic was on bags with a custom fabricated 2 link rear. Not looking to bag the suburban.

I have driven it around town, it seem to shift fine. It has the trailer package on it, but I really won't know how it does until I try it out with the boat behind.

Very nice. The Escalade wheels are so classy! You could clean up the headlight lenses. You'd be amazed at the difference in the headlights, plus it would look better. Other than that and those ventshade things, it's a great looking Suburban!

Yes, I plan on wet sanding and polishing the headlights, taillights, and pretty much the whole truck. I have almost 3 months before I actually have to drive it daily.... I have eventual plans of putting either HID or Projector lamps in it, so sort of mesh grill and maybe even an SS bumper cover. It is a work in progress. Oh yeah, the vent shades and nerf bars are going to be the first things to go.

If there is fabrication to be done, thats fine. I have the tools necessary to complete the task. That's what makes it fun...

The Blazer started as a Space Blue Metallic Blazer Xtreme w/4.3L which I bought new. It got rear ended and was pretty bent up. I had the frame straightened and then shaved the gas filler, hood squirters, rear tailgate, 3rd brake light, and added the roll pan. I painted it with HOK Orion Silver then went with a pearl blue intercoat before adding 5 coats of clear. I had almost 40 hrs in wetsanding and polishing to ensure a straight mirro finish. I left the door handles so it would pass tech. at the local drag strip. I pulled the 4.3L out and built a 400+ hp 350ci with a Turbo 350 Trans w/3500 Stall. Also removed the rear leafs and fabricated a 2 link bag set up. With that set up it HOOKed up at the track. Also added a 125hp Nitrous Express Plate set up, but never really used it.... It was able to lay frame. It won numerous local shows and took 1st, twice at the Detroit Autorama in its class. It was far from a dailey driver though. No AC, Windshield wiper, power steering, front runners, and drag radials. But it was damn fun to drive on the street. Easily could eat most street mustangs. I really miss that truck:whymewhyme: I had well over $40k wrapped up in it and sold it for $13.5k. You don't get into this hobby looking to make money that is for sure......... I have no plans of getting that carried away on the suburban, but you never know

Wow, 40hrs into the wetsanding, bet your hands were raw. Def. shows in those pics, looks really clean. I didnt think it still have the V6 in it, lol. I bet that thing was fun to drive, especially beating alot at the lights, then laying frame... thats just awesome. Well it looks really good.

Yep, fixing up anything, you dont ever get your money back from it. Thats what sucks, but hey we all got to be different, cant all be driving the same burban, or hoe around. But if you lay the burban, now that would be cool to..

Well welcome aboard again..
