My sister-in-law passed away recently and her daughters have decided to sell me her 2002 Blazer. It's a 2 door, RWD LS model with power windows, etc. and 83k miles. They initially thought it had been well cared for and offered it to me for a great price of $1,500. I had a pre-purchase inspection done because I've been caught in a "well cared for" trap before, my current Yukon. That's another story. Anyway, the Blazer needs an oil pan gasket, rear main seal, motor mounts and other basic maintenance stuff. After reviewing the report with them, they essentially gave it to me for $500. Here are some pics:

I have all of the service records from day one and it is super clean inside and outside. My initial plan was going to be to drop it 2" front and rear, do a BB tune, and maybe a few other cosmetic things. That changed with the repair bill, though. First thing will be to get the oil leaks and motor mounts fixed, then start tackling the other stuff.

The bill for the oil leaks and mounts will be about $1,500. This got me thinking about an engine swap. I'm going to spend some time looking into what it would take to put something else in there. The norm seems to be either a 5.7 or 5.3 swap. I know that both have their advantages, but in the end it will be whichever I can do the most cost effectively. Of course, it all depends on the what the wife has to say, too.

With all that stuff wrong with it, it HASN'T been "well taken care of". I'm on my 2nd S 10 based SUV ('96 2 door Jimmy and my current '04 4 door Blazer). I traded off my Jimmy with 171k miles and the only thing it needed was a speed sensor. My Blazer has a few misc issues but nothing as major as a rear main seal. Still, $1500 is a good price, especially since it's 2 wheel drive. Looks nice.

Right. Her daughters thought it had been. When I showed them the report, they dropped the price down to $500.

Thanks. She was a good lady. She had a few Vettes and Malibus in her younger days. Maybe that can help me convince the wife that the Blazer needs a transplant :)

Nice blazer I also picked up a blazer last week. 2000 4drs ls 4x4 with a sunroof. Same thing have oil leaks I've gotta fix and a motor mount is shot. These are a huge huge pita to do motor mounts. Spark plugs are a joke.. I did them yesterday and drivers side took the longest 20150124_110641_zpsg2nt3q3q.jpg

Cool Blazer. I have a 97 4X4. Been through all kinds of repairs over the years - still ticking though! It's my "grocery getter".
