I have the OEM Nav system w/ backup camera. But from what I found on the factory codes, it appears that my system doesn't have DVD. I have also tried sticking a DVD into the disc slot and it just kept trying to read it, but nothing ever came on (yes, I was parked- not driving).

Does anyone know if there is the possiblity of getting something that would allow DVD's to be played in my system? I don't want to purchase a whole new system, so that's out of the question. I would be willing to get the GM Lockpick if it did allow DVD playback, but I can't tell if it can or not.

Do you have a factory rear entertainment system? If not, then your navigation system probably does not have DVD playback capabilities.

Just to be sure check your unit for a DVD symbol. I have provided a picture (look in the red circle). If your unit can play DVD's then this symbol should, theoretically, be visible.

As for your question about the lock pick. I would say yes and no. I believe the lock pick, at least the GMX550 has an audio and video input. I would guess that this would allow you to plug in an external device (a separate DVD player) and allow it to show on the screen. I have not tried this myself, so I cannot verify that functionality though. Either way, if your unit does not have DVD functionality I think you are out of luck using the unit as a standalone DVD player.

I hope that helps. Let us know what you find out. Good luck nonetheless!!

It does not have the rear seat entertainment system, nor the DVD symbol. So, that's kind of what I thought. Hopefully someone will chime in about the GMX550 on the aux input piece. Even if I can end up playing movies through my ipod, that would suffice.

Now from your ipod is a different story. That just might work. Start your research about the GMX550 HERE

It may be just what you are looking for!

I am sure some other members can chime in about the lock picks and the issue at hand :)
