The last 2 days when I started my truck in the morning my navigation wasn't working and had the error message to insert disk. I ejected the disc put back in and it worked fine. I've had to do this maybe 5 other times in the 1.5yrs I've had the truck.

But today that no longer worked and all I get is the big compass. Tried taking it out and putting it back in a few times. Turned truck off couple times today and nothing. It just says disc error.

Anyone else experience this. Do these discs not last very long and is that why I see the posts about making backups?

Last question would a new disc be under warranty?

Thanks.

Mmm, not sure if the disc is covered under warranty ... but you can call GM customer service and ask them. Not to mention that if there are no visible signs of scratches/wear the issue could be with the head unit itself, in which case it is definitely under warranty.

As far as backups, although they are called that, they are seldom used for that purpose ... it's mostly a piracy euphemism.

I think it is the disc. I pulled it out for the 1st time since I've owned the truck and it did have some scratches and smudges/clouds.

Tried a CD and that played fine so I'm thinking it is the disc.

I'll call the dealer tomorrow.

Good luck with dealer ... hopefully he'll hook you up cause new dvds run around $180. :(

Let me know if it works out for you, if not I have an oem copy of version 4 that came with my 09 that I swapped out for the latest version 6.0c. :waytogo:

In case you have to buy a 6.0c disc, there are some for sale on Ebay. I got mine recently for just under $100. Used but authentic and no scratches. Works fine.

Good luck!

I see this all the time... How SHOULD it go at the dealership in this situation?? Is GM willing to stand behind it as a company if the stealership does not??

Thx! The disc worked today LOL. But I may end up just buying a newer version anyway. I thought I read somewhere the new versions are 2 discs with the country split? I live in MN but spend a lot of time in WI and can't be switching discs each time I cross the state line.

That's just silly talk ... 1 dvd for all US zones.

Glad you got it sorted out. The 6.0c version ain't cheap, but not only are the roads and poi updated, but it has much more attractive color layout that the 4.0 I used to have. It might be my imagination, but the firmware update that's included in it seems to do a lot less spin humming than the older version ... although it might just be me having become numb to it. :)

Has your 6.0c disc been working okay? Any electrical/electronic glitches occurring? I'm trying to troubleshoot some of my bugs.
