Mounting Garmin Nuvi using OnStar/Rear view mirror power

I just got a new 2011 Tahoe as a company car and wanted to mount my Garmin Nuvi in the upper left hand corner of the windshield. My question is in regards to how to utilize the power that runs to the back up camera/OnStar that is in the rearview mirror rather than 12v below the stero. Any help/guides would be greatly appreciated.

I would look into hard wiring it to your fuse panel. The easiest way to do it is to get a item called add-a-circuit like this http://www.amazon.com/Bussmann-BP-H..._2?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1324227055&sr=1-2

Then you can wire it to a constant on, or switched power fuse in your panel and run the wire up the A-Pillar to your garmin.

In my 2001 tahoe I used the add a circuit to hardwire a power outlet under the dash that was on only when the truck was. I used the fuse for the radio power. This way I didn't have to splice the cord for my garmin but it still functioned as a hardwired unit.

You can usually purchase any of these parts from your local auto parts store.
