I have the Metra kit in my Silverado and my radio sat way back like yours. I took a Dremel and shaved down the "lip" that the radio sits against...this allowed more room for the head unit to be pushed forward. Mine now sits exactly like I want it to. I had to remove about 3cm of plastic..

After hearing that the Scosche kit was better (thanks @wildcatgoal ) I remembered I wasn’t super happy with how the sides attach on the Metra kit I ordered one for about $10 on Amazon. I have to say it’s a “Scosche” better..the sides screw to the face and it fits great. I didn’t take pics of it before I installed it, sorry. But I have one after install and pics of the Metra’s failings.

My Metra fits perfect. Something must not be set right on your mounting tabs. I even painted it and all the other adjoining pieces so the color matches perfect too.View attachment 245340

:hmmm2:
Probably could have just dusted it off, Mark. You're lucky I don't live by you or I would just park my truck in your yard knowing that you would have no choice but to compulsively make it perfect.

I know I know. I painted that Scosche kit and then it sat for a couple days while I pondered why the f**k I even bought it in the first place, the HU was in, it looked fine....and then I thought about just throwing the damn new kit away because what the hell- it was only $10. Then I got off my lazy ass and when I pulled the HU out I was glad I did. I remembered how much it bothered me that those screw mounting holes were so weak that it seemed like not much was holding it in. It’s closer to perfect now but I swear the pieces in that center area can drive you nuts trying to get them perfect.
BTW now sometimes I just go sit in The Machine and check out how nice the interior is since I redid the whole thing and how nice the stereo sounds now. Lovin it.

After all that hard work--gotta sit back and enjoy it every now and then.
