Trying to determine if this is normal for a 4wd or if I have an issue.
Yukon AT4. 6.2L. 2023. 18K miles.

Frequently I park in front of my house pulled up next to the sidewalk. Because of how I leave the neighborhood one of the first things I do when i start up the truck is to initiate a left K-Turn almost immediately (I might roll forward a few feet or back a few feet (if my daughter has once again parked in front of me too closely)). When making this turn, after i've pulled across and backed up and now pulling forward again, making the top part of the "K", there is a sizeable thump/slip/jolt that occurs. It occurs twice. Almost as if it's the front wheels and then the rear wheels doing this. It almost feels like i've run over a tennis ball (twice).

it's not tire related. They are relatively new and have been consistently rotated and are inflated properly.
I've checked many times to ensure that I have the trans selector on 2WD and Normal drive mode.
I've also put the vehicle into 4WD and driven a tenth of a mile to make sure it engaged and then back to 2WD and drove another tenth of a mile to make sure 4WD disengaged, and I still got this same thump next time I did that turn.

I have noticed that if I roll down the street for 30-40 feet BEFORE i do the K Turn i get this much less frequently. I did this test as i wondered if this was somehow related to the drive train needing to "engage" before putting it through the turn. Preliminary research has suggested this could be a number of things that seem far more common with older vehicles. This AT4 is 2 years old and has less than 20K miles and has never done anything that could have damaged any control arms or bushings or things of that nature.

Is this just normal for a 4wd making a low speed turn right after starting without having driven forward for a bit?

Your truck may be less than 2 years old and 20k miles but these large SUVs require more service than I’d like to admit.

I had a similar clunk when I backed into a parking spot, only if I turned the wheel to full lock, it would clunk. essentially the same as a K turn. Ended up being my upper ball joint. I couldn’t mimic the clunk on jacks but the noise went away when I replaced it.

First off, you need to get out and drive more either a 2 year old ride with 18k miles. You are not in 4wd on pavement are you?

only for the tenth of a mile to make sure it got into 4WD and then another tenth of a mile after that to make sure it got back into 2WD. I wanted to be sure that there wasn't a case of it somehow being stuck in 4WD for some crazy reason and I was getting that low speed crabbing you sometimes get with 4WD due to the physics of the wheels turning at different rates.
My commute is thankfully only 9 miles way, so I don't rack up too many annual miles.

Thanks. Do you think feeling the thump/jolt twice (distinctly) keeps the potential bad ball joint in the realm of possible?

Usually just once but for me I’ll try to describe it the best I can.

Pulling past the parking spot (on my right) I cut left, stop, cut the wheel far right, pop, reverse into spot. That happened pretty much every morning.

But you don’t need/use 4wd every day, every trip, do you?

no, i essentially never use it. I've used it two times in two years. i had just read some people saying that they had situation where it got "stuck" in 4wd from a past use despite the dashboard indicator showing it wasn't in 4WD any longer. or that people had set it to "Auto" and it was confusing the car. I wanted to make sure (as best i could) that it was for sure just in 2WD.

Get off road and see if you can spin the rear tires.
