Is the spare supposed to be a little loose while hanging?

Just had my spare tire replaced and now when I go to install it I crank the hoist until it clicks 2 times but the tire isn't right against the underside. I can still move it a little. I've tried 3 times now. Is this right?

Happened to me last year, bought another off ebay from a guy who cleans them up and only sells good ones. It is supposed to go up against the bottom which keeps it from moving around.

I can feel that the piece that holds the wheel up is sitting against the rubber boot on the hoist. It goes all the way up and the tire is hanging level (touching the front upper been piece). It looks like in order to be snug it had to hang at an angle with the rear angled upwards. I am hanging it with the valve stem facing down like the manual says.

I think it should retract at least partway into the rubber boot on the hoist. Try it with the tire off and see. My original still worked, if there was no weight on it. Then it would click and not raise the tire up any further.

all my trucks pulled the spare up tight to the body.

you might be able to put a shim on top of the tire to take up the space if you hear it banging around till you get a new lift for it.

Ok. I pulled the wheel out and cranked it up by itself. Snugs up and compresses the spring fine. I drove slow by a neighbor's house with the same body style and noticed their spare was tucked up better than mine. I flipped the tire over (valve stem facing up) and it snugged up fine. So much for following the owner's manual. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
