After searching high and low and taking my center console apart, I finally found the perfect solution to use my iPad without installing headrest monitors or an overhead DVD.

I really wanted to find a way to place my iPad 2 in between the two front seats. I looked for a headrest mount that was long enough to mount on one side and extend to the center but I could not find one long enough to handle the immense width between the seats. Then I looked at a center console video monitor thing but it was not wide enough.

So this is what I did.

1. Bought this for $29.99 at a local Micro Center Super Store.

It comes with a thin long plate that you would normally screw to the underside of a cabinet, I did not use that part.

2. I then removed the rubber flap in the center of the console and also removed the two screws near the rear of the tray. I then placed the mount over the two screw holes. I grabbed two new screws that were longer and proceeded to fasten the mount to the center console. I had to go at a bit of an angle but the screws did grab nicely.

5. Since the mount is magnetic you can still open the center console and grab stuff and the iPad stays intact!

I just got back from a 1 hour long road trip with the kids and they loved it! It hardly moved when on bumpy roads. I was able to comfortably place my arm on the armrest without touching it (I am a big guy too). I plugged in the aux cable and had the kids plug in their headphones to the rear audio controls and they enjoyed watching the movie while my wife and I listened to XM radio up front.

That's pretty neat ... you macgyvered it good.

I wonder if there's a way to get through the console so you can have the charger inside the lid accessing the cigarette lighter thingie?

I would not do that. Lid is way too expensive.
A+ for doing it for the kids though!

Wow, don't they make a headrest bracket for like $20? I don't know how I feel about drilling into my lid?
