Intermittent issue with driver side step rail

I am having an intermittent issue with the driver side step rail not deploying. Sometimes it is when I unlock using proximity, other times it happens when I park and open the door after turning the vehicle off. When it occurs, it is only the drivers side. Passenger side never has the issue.
Has anyone seen this issue and if so, what is the typical cause?

On my vehicle when steps start giving me trouble, I clean hinges and pins with penetrating oil then use a dry powder spray lube as to not attract dirt and debris as easily.

It doesn’t appear to be sticking. When it works the next time, it doesn’t make noise or stick, it drops down quickly and cleanly.
It seems to stick about 1 out of every 10 cycles.

The steps have a real sensitive safety system that if they feel anything restrictive, they eighter go back to start position whether going down or up for safety for pinch points.

Usually when mine start retracting a good cleaning will straighten them up.
