I have a Engine Code. i belive its P0430. its related to emission problem.

I have look under the SUV and i only seen 1 Big BOX near the end of the SUV and it think that is just a muffler.

i assume there should be a 2 Catalytic Converter before the muffler. iam correct?

If so. can i just put a Universal Catalytic converter from eBay. and pass emission.

And oh boy. my SUV sound so loud. it wakes up the whole neighborhood

You have two. And it depends if you live in California or not whether or not you can put any one in there.

What? so your saying i have to buy a Catalytic Converter that is allowed in California.

I live in San Diego. CA

Does it really matter if i buy one that is not California approve? and how do they find out if it is? What is the difference between the NON-California Catalytic Converter and Other Catalytic Converter'

Do i need two Catalytic Converter per pipe?.. because i have two Pipe coming from the engine.

Does one pipe have two Catalytic Converter or one Catalytic Converter per pipe

Yes it matters for CA. if it is a bat cat, replace the bad cat. Any muffler shop has them in stock and can cut the bad unit out and weld in the new one. I did that three times before I got the bright idea to get the magnaflow units.

It absolutely matters if you have a non-california converter since California has much stricter emission laws. you will automatically fail smog if you don't have a california approved one.

Ok, in this case Magnaflow HI-Flow cats are cheaper then OEM and perform better. I was able to score 2 aftermarket Magnflow Cats for $110 shipped to my front door. Are they Ca legal not sure but I will doublecheck for you. If anything call Jegs, bulshit with them and grab the Manufacturer's part number. Google it and amazon.com it and it will give you the cheapest price.

p.s. you will have 2 cats in your system 1 per header on the Y pipe.

Its one cat per pipe going into the muffler. Both my cats were bad, so I ended up going w/ a Magnaflow exhaust with 1 cat

Maybe back in the early 70's, but now engines are designed to work with them, and you aren't going get that much better gas mileage on a stock engine with the cat removed. Plus its not street legal in most states (that I know of) to be driving without one

If you dont replace it im sure your mileage will suffer more, I just replaced mine in Fresno after driving around with a P0420 code (other side from yours) and gained back a few miles per gallon. So yes a Cat will increase your mileage

When i had a flex pipe issue with my 2004 9C1 Impala,i just replaced the whole down pipe, flex pipe, and cat with a Magnaflow unit (its all one piece). The magnaflow unit flowed better and had a better over all design.

Out of all the mods i did to that Impala, the biggest gain i felt was from that Magnaflow unit. Also the MF unit was cheaper in cost than a OEM replacement....It was really a win win for me :)

For example: The stock down pipe had a U bend that really restricted exhaust flow, the MF unit had no U bend and was strait through. The cat looked better as well.Really good bang for the buck.
