Has anyone seen brake lights come on randomly?

So I woke up at 4:40am last week and saw my brake lights on on my 2004 Z71 Tahoe. I was letting the dog out so I went back in and got my keys unlocked door and jiggled pedal and the lights went out. I went to Oreily and bought a brake shift actuator and replaced it... lights being on combined with hot July weather in Mississippi killed the battery so I replaced it yesterday. Woke up this morning and the rear brake lights were on again. Have you ever heard of something like this? Is there a pedal travel adjustment for something I can change on the pedal assembly to correct this or is it a wiring issue? brakes work fine otherwise.
Thank you in advance,Richie

Is there a sensor under the pedal for the brake? I can't remember.

on some you can move the pedal sensor by hand back & forth, grab it and see if it will move back a hair, I had a problem with my 00 sometimes it would move back and I would have to move it forward again. poor design by gm in my opinion no way to tighten it up either.

Yes there's a small silver canister looking thing with a blue plastic insert that looks like its fitted for a large phillips head it isnt under the pedal though its higher up on the pedal bracket itself under dash...when you shake the pedal the light does go out. thats why I thought it was the shift lock actuator but I am not a mechanic but a little mechanically inclined.

I just can't remember if it is ab accelerator sensor or brake sensor. If it can be the brake sensor -- you're may be going bad. Could also be a loose wire. I've not experienced this one. The closest I got was that the wire between the front of our Suburban the brake lights that wore completely through. :-(
