Has anyone else seen this or am I imagining but it seems the radiator fan runs more often

Short trip to town and on the return trip the fan was on full speed most of the ride home of less than a mile. Granted it was in the 90s but it came from a cool garage and never reached full operated temperature. When it was new it seemed to never come on except under extreme conditions. Plus the air conditioning seems to go nuts in hot weather as I have to dial it way back by setting it to over 80 degrees then gradually dial it downward as the interior cools. Could these be related?

there is a ambient air temp sensor in the headliner above the driver and above the 2nd row passenger side, either one of those or both "could" be the reason for your hvac issue, they measure the air temp and adjust the ac temp accordingly if the sensor is not working properly it can cause the hvac issue you experience, they run about $25.00 online each for new ones.
that would not likely have much to do with the fans running high speed unless they were being commanded because of the ac alone
otherwise the vehicle engine temperature is normally why the fans are running or not, a scanner would be able to monitor the temps so you could get a more accurate diagnosis.
a techII could be used to monitor the hvac ambient air sensors also.
