At some point I'm going to start turning my Tahoe into an expedition style vehicle. I was just wondering if there is any benefit to having a from mounted hitch? And can if I do have one, cannot still be used if the bumper is replaced with something a little more beefy.

That last sentence was confusing.

Advantages: Easier to control backing a long trailer, MUCH better visibility on where you're going. More torque in reverse if you're moving something heavy a short distance up a hill?

Yeah it was, sorry about that I was typing from my phone. What it was asking was if I replace the stock bumper with an after market off road style bumper, can I still retain and use the front hitch.

Why not just get an off road bumper with a hitch built in...

I think that's my plan. Just wanted some opinions on it. I've been looking at bumpers (front and rear) and have yet to find anything. The closest ones are the Tactical Armor versions but they're a little pricey for me right now.

i'm looking into this too. I'd like to get a winch and move it to front or rear for use --i'd also like to get one of those receiver carriers to use on the front. Not having a pick-up truck anymore and having the tahoe, I'm trying to find as many places to carry stuff while going in to the mountains and leaving the interior clean and empty.

The cheapest I found a front hitch was $155 (I believe off eBay). Does anyone know if this is a good price, or any other sites to check on. Supposedly you're supposed to just bolt it on and keep stock tow hooks too.
