front end pops

Hi everyone i have a issue every time i turn the front wheels i allways get a poping noise i check everything and it is all tight.does any one have a clue.

Are you fully locked turning but driving really slow and the front end kind of "loads" up then pops like the tires are slipping then "loads" up then pops again? Maybe 2 or 3 times when turning a 180?

It could be power steering or intermediate steering shaft, just a few suggestions, not a diagnosis. Could you please provide additional information? How often does it occur? Does it only occur during specific conditions (i.e. on cold start)? Can you feel the noise in the steering wheel?

It allways does it when turning ar low speeds and when backing up.it sounds like its coming from the left side somewhere i had it checked out but knowbody can figure it out

My 07 Tahoe used to do the same thing. It sounded like a popping noise when I was making a sharp turn. It was usually as slow speeds too, like pulling out of my garage or a parking lot or something. I never did figure out what caused it and I actually ended up trading up so I don't have the tahoe anymore. Not sure what the issue was but it did it for a while and nothing ever came of it. I'd be curious to know what was causing it myself though... Hope ya figure it out!

got the same issue as well. im suspecting a bad ball joint . when i do my spindle drop im replacing all 4 ball joints so we'll see what happens

x2 on the ball joints. When you check them you have to jack up the tire a little, and get a pry bar under the tire. It takes a lot of force to check the ball joints and see if there's some play, but i thought that popping was a the first sign of them going bad.

I had a similar noise coming from my front left side, mostly turning left and accelerating from a dead stop. It turns out that it was the motor mount. The motor mounts are hydraulic, utilizing fluid to dampen the motion. After 5 years and 105,000 miles, the fluid had leaked out. The noise went away following replacement.

Upon installing the drop, most of the popping went away, since my lowers were bad, I'm sure the uppers are as well. I have some DJM upper arms on the way to eliminate the rest. After that I plan on changing out the steering shafts on mine and the lady's Yukon.

My 07 Tahoe did this I took it to a shop and they said something along the bottom between the two front wheels was shifting.
He showed me like four bolts if I can remember he said they were slightly loose.

Nah mate, I bought DJM uppers because I already had DJM lowers and new control arms cost $25 more than new balljoints and installation (or the time it would take me to wrestle the old balljoints out and press the new ones in). I know the constant rattle in the steering is the steering shaft but the popping in and out of parking lots at a decent speed sounds like the pops I heard from the original ball joints which were terrible. I should've had the uppers replaced when I had the lower arms installed but I was in a hurry to get it done and didn't want to wait or spend the extra money when I could buy new uppers for close to the same price.

Well if ball joints turn out to not be the answer, there is another possibility. I had a Ford that did the exact same thing. Turned out it was rivets in the frame that were coming loose and shifted just enough during corners to make it pop. Finally found it by seeing a very thin rust "halo" mark around the head of the rivet.

The fix is to replace the rivets with bolts.

So I was having this issue and after much inspection and replacing parts it turned out to be the bolts on the upper control arm camber bushings. The threads were worn and in result, you couldn't tighten down the nut tight enough and it was popping under load ( high turn angle at low speed on an angle). Likewise, explains the ****** tie wear/ constant alignment issues. I purchased new camber bolts from SPC and replaced them on both driver and passenger upper control arm bushings... four in total. The problem one for me was the divers side rear bushing.

Good info here. I replaced my upper control arms and all noises disappeared except for the steering shaft muffled rattles. No more popping under load, no more noise during hard stops/take-offs. My original upper balljoints were worse than the original lowers. Now I have an upper control arm that corrects balljoint angles and has bolt-in balljoints in case replacement is necessary in the future.
