E85 performance tune with BBP ?

Has anyone here had BlackBearPerformance give them an E85 tune? I have a performance tune through bbp but I'm wondering if I can squeeze some more power out of an E85 tune , thoughts ?

Last time I checked, they did not offer a specific E85 tune though the E85 tables do benefit from their tuning. Why not ask them directly here? @BlackBearPerf

I did and really didn't get a direct answer @ the time and sometimes it can take a few days to hear back from justin @ BBP

I asked once and for my generation truck the answer was no. They do monitor this forum for alerts, they'll be along in due time with your answer.

If you have a Gen V 5.3, they pick up over 25 horsepower when switching from gas to E85 already.

I believe I asked them as well and I believe the short answer was that that 92 tune works just fine with e85 in other words no additional beni's
I could be wrong though, dug in my emails and this is what he said

I'm paying 3.60 for 93 and I belive e85 is about 2.45

although it's not supposed to happen on e85, it has been noted here and there that the 02 sensors should be "newer" if you are running e85 a lot. might also have a lot to do with how you drive, seems like every time I run e85 for a bit I end up with problems. Last run around thanksgiving and running some tanks of e85 I had some 02 sensor problems but those had about 70k on them so there may be some "truth" to that. I replaced the sensors but haven't ran any e85 since then.

when I did run those tanks of e85 I took a nice 800 mile road trip it did seem to have a smidge more power or my mind was playing tricks on me I drive kind ballz out anyway so really hard to say "yes" my mpg didn't change either, it's stuck on 9.7 usually lol. the pickup showed 9.2 the other day and there aint nothing wrong with it and it only has about 65k on it.

You don't get much benefit from just one tank of E85. When mixing the first tank of fuel, it rarely gets calculated to full strength. The engine and transmission take a little time to adjust to it too. By the 4th and 5th tank, it's been at full strength and the computer is adjusted and these LS engines love the stuff.

As an example, my first tank of E85 this year came out at 65%, 2nd tank 70% and third tank to 80%.

Fuel economy around town is about 20% less and on the highway about 25% less.



When the factory oxygen sensors get over about 100K miles, they begin to lose the ability to calculate the alcohol percentage accurately while otherwise calculating trims just fine.

Aftermarket sensors almost never work right in getting the alcohol percentage correct, they can barely send the right data for the trims on gasoline.


If you are up north, E85 may only be at 51% to 70% or so for the "winter blend". This is done to aid with cold starts in the morning.

Down here in Florida, we get 80% year round and if it's in the 50s in the morning, she stalls on the first remote start but is fine after that.

That is correct. We do not have a tune that is specific for E85, but if the vehicle is a Flex Fuel, E85 can be run on our 91+ or 89-87 octane tunes.
