Long story short, I’ve been dealing with an occasional front end clunk on my Tahoe for MONTHS and it’s been getting on my last nerve (the wife complaining that I still haven’t taken it in to be looked at is my last nerve lol). One random POP while braking and nearly stopped, it seemed to correlate with the 2-1 downshift timing.
Had some wear items that I replaced (sway bar links, sway bar bushings) and no improvement. Had replaced all front end suspension components last year and everything was still solid. Even checked the transmission mount and nothing stood out. Well, I got back under the vehicle again today just to poke around and noticed a crack in the transmission mount on the passenger side. Pryed at it and saw some flexing but wasn’t sure if it was going to be considered normal or not. Shimmied to the driver’s side and saw a chunk missing. I got a scope and looked inside and sure enough you can see the whole thing bouncing around when I pry on it. I went and looked at the nuts for the mount itself that connect to the crossmember and see that it looks like the whole thing has shifted.
Waiting on an AC Delco replacement to come in tomorrow morning and I’ll hopefully be done with this headache. Pics and videos for anyone that may run into this problem.
