Console USB

For the life of me - cant find an answer to this.

I've got an '11 Denali XL with nav. when I plug my iPhone 6 into the console it only reads music on my phone (which there inst any).

is the USB solely for readable music/charging and not capable of streaming through the usb? perhaps this is why I have an aux input on the radio itself....was hoping for a bit more but may be answering my own question here.

I use an iPad for audio/video via the USB connection and for a non-nav vehicle, it works like this -- first, I let iTunes start playing a song, then I pause it via the radio, not the iPad. Then I start whatever app I'm going to use (Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, etc.), once the song or track info shows up on the radio, I hit the pause button on the radio again and it picks up the app's audio instead of the Music app's audio. It works for almost everything...The basic rule is that if the application's track info/player controls appear in the swipe up controls, then it should work. Annoyingly, apps like SlingTV that don't use the built-in control APIs won't play sound through the factory stereo. Not sure if this method will work with the nav radio, but it's worth a shot.

^ what he said is correct. For example, I use the SiriusXM app and IHeartRadio apps a lot. When you plug in, it will default to the iPhones music. Just open whatever app it is, hit play, and you're good to go.
