Cheap easy built my own 3-4” lift

I always read about everybody asking about what to use for your 3-4” lift and how to do it. so I just want to show a sample of what I’m doing for my 2019 suburban LT 4x4.

I posted Pics for reference, the tires btw are Fuel mud grabbers 275/65-18. I don’t have the fancy suspension options so this build is easy. Wheel tires will come mounted balanced and drop shipped to my place. Whole cost of project is about $2509.95 total including lift parts. I’ll have it installed in two weeks when I’m home from the road and will be making an install video and another post update on ride, handling, quality.

this is a stopgap lift until I’m done saving for my mid travel kit that will ultimately be on this big girl.

I think my nextove will be to drop the difference slightly.

Very happy with the current outcome, 2.5/1.5 with a 285/50/22..
I total the measurements were spot on with hard pucks, and overall with tire about 3.25 higher than stock.

Honestly considered a 4" but didn't want to mess with spacers or wheels due to the knuckles.

It rides great and is very noticeable in person compared to a stock unit

I really like the way that sits especially with the 22s, I wanted to stay with the 22s but the wife really liked the rims I picked out and the style tires because she drives it 80% of the time while I’m out on the road.
I forgot to mention I did get upper arms for the truck because I have the stamped arms with aluminum knuckles that I know cause problems with the ball joints. I wanted to achieve 4 inch lift without all the added crossmembers from more expensive kits.

Cant wait to see it, i like the wheel...i debating going to an 18 or 20, but too many things moving right now

i am relocating job sites for the next 15 months, we sold are house and relocating that, with all of our other travel plans...softball tourneys, national bata society, and family fun trips....i just said tires and lift and DONE. glad i did, it took me one evening to do the lift, then tires and alignment the next...then did an 1600 mile round trip loaded with a 12' enclosed loaded to the gills. the old girl performed flawlessly. could not be any happier with the outcome

How straight are your C.V. axles?

Honestly, not too bad. But I would prefer better

I also would prefer a knuckle to correct arm angles, but did not want to deal with new wheels at the time.

Here’s an update to my 3” lift install. Everything fit up nice with no issues. Took about 6 hours with a jack, jack stands and a combo of hand tools and air tools.

the Z71 coils and 2” spacer with a 3” front spacer combo give a nice close to factory rake and ride.

thoughts on the Z71 coils ??? this is a mod i still want to do as we carry 6 people and bags regularly. i think the added spring rate will aid in roll as well as ride

Half the bumper is being cut off for a pre-runner style tube bumper so I can keep my front park sensors, but I’ll be taking that valance off when I get a chance this week.

I’m running a 275/65-R18 fuel grabber, no rubbing on the wheel wells but some on the front sway bar.
The Z71 coils are working excellent. I highly recommend them. I can for sure tell there is a high spring rate but it doesn’t bother me. The rear end just feels more stable and planted.

i too, knock the paint off the sway bar if i try, normal conditions...no issues.

i seem to have a slight popping of the ball joint, which i new would happen. i have been looking into replacement arms, just havent had much time lately. since they are popping...it is time.

I went with some eBay ones for $250 for now I just swapped the ball joints to the right size…. They work well for street work but I’m looking @ bajakits or a dirt king setup eventually with 3.0 coilovers.

the stock strut has met it max travel for what I like so it’s time to upgrade again…. I kept bottoming out on simple whoops. Spacer works perfectly fine for street work though.

eBay is where I went to, most quality vendors have a page with their products on it, been using for years.
