Anyone have a cammed 5.3l nnbs? Wondering if a cam mod is worth the $$$ and effort for a daily driver that does some boat towing too. Thanks!

All depends on the cam you go with. Also, you might want to match it up with a stall, then you are opening a whole new can of worms!

Hey Jenna, I found this on the GMFS forum. Are they talking about your Tahoe? Are these cams that might not require a stall and could still give low end power? They are referencing an '04 Z71 with 5.3l.

Biggest I'd go in your truck without a stall is a 212/218 on a 112 or 114LSA. However, since you're in a heavier truck, it may not provide the bottom end grunt that you want. In that case, I'd run a grind like JustinSS recently installed in his lady's tahoe. Something along the lines of 206-208 intake duration and 212-216 exhaust duration. I wouldn't worry about running an extremely high lift. Also, as far as lobe separation angle, 114LSA would provide you with a broader powerband and it would have somewhat of a lope at idle. 112LSA will have a more defined powerband and the idle will be a bit more lopier. That aspect is left up to you.
Suggestions without upgrading converters:

the COMP Cams 54-408-11. Its a 206/212 .515"/.522" on a 112LSA

If you think you may ever upgrade converters, I'd go with the COMP Cams 54-412-11.

Yes, that would be mine. I didn't want to install a stall and I knew we would be running a blower. Was perfect with and withough F/I.

Pardon the ignorance, but why wouldn't you want a stall with F/I?

Got it. And the mild cam still gave noticeable results even without F/I? Thank you.
