So I'm about to pull the trigger on a new cam, springs and pushrods. Is there anyone in SoCal (I live in San Diego) that would be willing to help? I'm handy with a wrench, but I've never done this before.

Actually, I was eventually gonna get LT headers to compliment the cam, but now I'm not sure what to get first. What do you guys think is the best gains for the money right now, the LT's or the cam? (cant afford both at once...)

cam should give you more gains,

but the LT's are a fairly easy install.
and should be noticable

you can get away with the LT's (without a tune)
but the cam will almost definately require a tune

If you are handy with a wrench, you shouldn't have any problems. The cam is easy. It's straight forward and the only special tool you will need is for the valve springs. Just remember to use the dowels to hold up the lifters. There is a great link for a cam swap on ls1tech. You will most definatly need a new tune for the cam.

Awesome, thanks for the help guys. What all do I need in the installation as far as gaskets, bolts, etc? I'm replacing the water pump since I just hit 100k, its probably due anyways so I have those gaskets.

Stuff gets in tommorrow, hopeully Ill get it in on Friday! Do you guys know if the harmonic balancer installer from autozone works in getting the pulley back in? I cant find a longer crank pulley bolt anywhere, and I dont really feel like dropping 30 bucks on a longer bolt from ARP.
