one of the recalls is for the gas peddle, it gets stuck to the floor because the mat jams it.

^^^ exactly. It comes from people not installing the floor mats correctly. We had one lady who, while the garage door was down, start her vehicle, put it in reverse and here gas pedal caught her floor mat, that was on top of 2 other floor mats. She drove through her garage door, did I mention that it was down BEFORE putting her car into gear, across the street and into her neighbor's yard. The other recalls are a simple 15 minute fix.

The most annoying thing for me about all of this was the lack of information we got as a dealership. We didn't know anything until the day the news had a field day with it. Even then it was limited info about what was affected and what to do about it. A lot of "Idunno" answers to customers gets old and makes the service dept. look like a bunch of incompetent dumbasses.

IMO the American automobile companies have been producing $hit cars and trucks since the mid 1970's, with the exception of the GM Full Size V8's of course; but even those don't hold the reliability and resale value of those produced across the pond in Japan and China.

I think Toyota has been having a rough go of it lately in the press. I think it still needs to be noticed that the vast majority of automobiles they develop continue to be on the road today. I think their commercial sums it up pretty well when they point out the fact that 80-90% of their vehicles produced in the last 20 years on still on the road.

Ford, GM, and Dodge can't say that.

Lets face it, I love my Tahoe and I think GM produces one hell of a full size truck. However, every other American vehicle made has been complete $hit compared to our neighbors across the pond.

Well how i quoted you before, i wasnt aware of you working at a dealership, i thought this thread was to make fun of toyotas and what not then. But i realized you work with them. lol

I only work in parts/service part time after class. I was just trying to clarify some things and rant a bit on working with dumbass customers and for a company that hasn't had the best communication lately. It has been getting better though. Except for the dumbass customers, there will always be those...

sorry, I don't fall for the floormats caused ALL the issues....couple in Dallas was killed when their car ran away with stuck peddle, and mats were in trunk.

Don't listen to the idiots that tell you the foreign car companies make a better quality vehicle now days. They are all on par with eachother. Id say Ford is on top of everyone in this department as of late.

I'll agree that American cars have gotten better. However, its a bit of a stretch to say they are equal to those produced across the pond.

A women who rents from me purchased a 2006 Mercury Milian (FORD) and it has been in-and-out of the repair shop since she purchased it new. By the time it had 16,000 miles it had been taken to the repair shop at least 4 times. (Engine once, Suspension twice, Electrical once)

I also own a 2000 Toyota Celica that has 154,000 miles on the clock. Other than an oil change and brakes, I have never made any repairs to the car ever. The car is still very tight and drive's really well.

I'll keep my Tahoe for a long time, but if I had to go out and purchase a new vehicle today, Toyota would be my first choice. (I've always wanted a Toyota Sequoia) My buddy has a 2003 Sequoia with over 200,000 miles and he beats that thing. No major repairs, no nickle and dime incidents too date, They make a dam good rig IMO.

Any car can have problems like that. Its called a Lemon. My mom had a 00 Ford Expidition and she put almost 200K on it before she got rid of it and it didnt go to the shop even once. She now has a King Ranch and has put 70K on it in two years and has never had a problem with it. My dad had an 02 2500HD that he put 190K on that were HARD HARD HARD miles. He is in the Ag industry and beat the hell out of it. His 09 has 50K on it and has never had a single problem. I had a 98 Nissan Altima as a DD and it was breaking left and right. My uncle had a Tundra that had problems from the get go and had it Lemon Lawed within 6 months.

after my 2000 Hyundai, i don't believe imports are any better than anything else on the road.
and personally - **** Toyota - they can't even make a car with NORMAL gas/brake pedal sensitivity.
for jebus christ, we don't need to do burnouts and screaching halts whenever you press the pedal a 1/2"!!
that shit made drivers ed a real pain in the ass cuz they used 199X Corolla's, and i was used to driving my dad's 1988 Chevy Cavalier RS wagon (FR with the 2.8L FI and the steel rally rims)
