busted rearend mod!!

well decided to clean up the yukon today wash wax did the roof rack removal mod too which i really like! anyway i went to take some pictures and after i was done i got in and put it in drive and all i heard was "clunk bang skreatch rattle rattle" speedo nailed 120 then the yukon just slowly started drifting. first thought was the trans went....put it in reverse it would sqeal and catrry on but it would go did that for a few feet stoped and put her back in drive and went on my way maybe 1/4mile and boom peged speedo again and just coasted off the road. i was like 1/2 mile from the house to i just put it in 4hi and went on my way. im gona pull the cover tomarrow and see what all came apart. gona call the shop monday and see how much its gona be if i cant find someone to do it for a good price ill do it or find a used rear foe now....anyway here are the pics :p

yeah probably ever since ive had it ive always had problems with the gov lock unit locking and unlocking randomly ect so im hoping just hoping that the unit is bad only but i have a feeling its much more. im gona pull the cover tomarrow and check it out. id rather throw in some 4.11s and a true track but prices for labor at local shop and parts would be about 2k for front and rear :/

well ive done it in my 82 ta before and had good luck but it isnt my dd also. shops around here are wanting to charge a lot to do gears :/

Why would the speedo hit 120 for what sounds like a mechanical problem, unless some traction control electronics involved?

Exactly! My speed gov is set to 135 so thats another reason it was able to rev so high...since it slipped/let loose while i was in motion and foot was on the gas and the instant jerk it caused the trans/ds to free rev. Im courios to see what came apart! Im gona call around i may find a used rear to swap in for now until i can aford to upgrade to 4.11s front and rear and put in a true trac.

Ahhh, I thought the speedometer was linked to a sensor in the wheel or something. That makes sense. Learn something new every day :hands:

They have coil spring 14 bolts with 4.10s all over the place I'd look into one of those then you'll only have to regear the front.

well i got it apart and looks to be only the locker went bad! its in tons a pices but i cleaned it out and the ring/pinion looks to be unharmed. with xmas coming up and me in the process of rebuilding the th350 for my k10 i dont think i will upgrade to a true trac yet so for now im gona look for a used gov lock to go back in. since im not removing the pinion it will ot be too bad correct? check pattern now then make sure to get backlash set right and same pattern when i set back up? anyway here is the carnage.

ohh neat peices! Wth happened there actually? Ive been wanting a different setup for my yukon, something with a locker, air locker or something ya know. Are you going to fic it yourself? If so, you should do a write up.
