Hey all, just FYI, my 1000 mile trip to Canada and back towing my boat went off without a hitch. Motor seemed strong the whole time…dealer called on 2nd last day of my trip saying recall is now open on my VIN, scheduled appointment for next week. Will report back next week!

Happy Fathers Day to all the dads!!

Thanks, and thanks for the report. We also have a 2022 Denali. So far so good but we will see.

That is somewhat reassuring -- I've taken my 2023 on a few 1,000 miles trips (2,000 miles RT) and had zero issues. Sitting at just over 27k miles now, and planning more trips. On the highway, I normally set Cruise and just float down the highway at 75-80 mph. However, my truck is fairly loaded during these trips; wife, 90 lb dog and lots of 'stuff'. Only problem I've encountered was the 'Wiper issue'.... twice. But not in quite a while.

On the GMC App, the recall is listed as 'Required'. No letter yet.

...then how'd you hook up your boat?

But seriously, folks... I guess that's where most of are with all of this: everything is fine until it suddenly isn't. Thankfully, your trip all went smoothly, as all of mine have (SO FAR).

I'll be looking for the recall notice in the mail. I obviously don't want to go through all of the downtime without my truck, but I'll be looking forward to some peace of mind after the [inevitable] engine replacement.

She’s been dropped off. Almost got sent home cause the service guy said he didn’t think they actually had the pico scope in and setup. Thankfully they did. I’ll update you all this afternoon with the prognosis of whether my replacement engine is toast or not.

I brought my Tahoe in to the dealership today. On my GM app the recall notice changed from “no remedy available” to “schedule service” so I scheduled service. I didn’t get the letter but the recall section on the app changed and I figured that was the same as a letter.

I dropped it off this morning and the service guy told me about the pico scope inspection and said it might be a couple hours as they want the engine temperature to come down for the inspection and if it passes then they change the oil/filter for free, if it doesn’t pass then they change the engine, just as the official GM notice says. The service advisor said the couple they were doing today were the first ones and he did say it could take longer. I told him no worries as I wanted the oil change anyway as the OLM was getting close to 50%.

Any way they text me a couple hours later saying it’s ready to pick up.

When I go in the service advisor told me they were ready to do the inspection but they didn’t receive the official word from GM and the Service Manager was reluctant to start a couple inspections they had scheduled for today. Apparently they were all set and ready but the management was in CYA mode. The advisor apologized and I realized it wasn’t his call.

So I got the oil changed 0-20W and it cost me $110 and I still don’t know if my engine is gonna blow up.

Damn. That sucks. Hopefully I don't get the shafted like that.

I will note, even though it sounds like we were seeing slightly different things in the app, that mine has always had a "Schedule service" button at the bottom, which I think is kind of a generic button/link. What I mean is, my status shows as "Incomplete. Remedy not available", but there is still a "Schedule service" button that I can click. I think all that button allows me to do is schedule a service appointment for whatever service I might need (oil change, etc.), not a specific service tied to the recall, if that makes sense.

That Schedule Service has always been on my app since day one on both of our Silverado and Tahoe also, it's just a button if you want Schedule Service.

It is my understanding, that if you check on GM's web site under support --> is there a recall on my vehicle, and it shows "Incomplete" not "Incomplete, Remedy Not Available" then the dealer is good to go to do the procedure.
Mine goes in tomorrow, and it shows as above (This is a screen shot of the results of checking for recall on GMC.com for my VIN.)

Good to know. I just checked mine. Just says "incomplete".

Just got the call saying they ran the test twice just make sure. Zero knock etc. Getting the oil changed now. Warranty on the engine will get extended to 150k.
What oil were you running when you took it in for the inspection procedure? I am NOT trying to restart the oil debate here. Just curious what you had in yours when it was inspected.

0W-40. If it meant delaying the inevitable, I wasn’t going to risk a failure on the road somewhere while waiting for this recall to take shape. Figured switching to the thicker stuff might at least get me through the summer(if the engine was bad) if I had to wait that long before an inspection.

I know what you’re probably thinking; thicker oil could have potentially masked the problem during inspection?

I seriously doubt it since they(GM) can’t be that naive in thinking that 0W-20 is the only oil that people have been putting into the L87.

I’m pretty positive that the pico scope is sensitive enough to detect knock no matter want kind of oil is in the engine.

I’m with you. I have 0W-40 in mine currently as well. I believe someone else said they may switch back to 0W-20 when it’s time to take theirs in for inspection. I will make a decision on that later once I can take it in. Glad your engine tested fine, that is good.

When it comes time to take mine in, I honestly can’t decide which outcome I’ll be hoping for.

Ya I could have done that. But to tbh, I would rather have the extended warranty out to 150k on my current engine vs getting a new one and only having 10k miles left on it like I previously did. So the question I totally forgot to ask my service manager is, say this engine, hypothetically speaking, grenades itself in 20k miles. Do I still retain that 150k mile warranty on the replacement engine or does that go null and void after the fact?

I believe someone posted the terms of the 150k mile warranty awhile back. But this thread is too long for me to go try to find it. However, I would assume if your current engine gets replaced under that special warranty, then that special warranty would NOT apply to the new replacement engine as well. But I’m sure someone on here can probably offer a better answer to that question.
