Hello all,

I recently saw some gmc yukons at my local grocery store with blacked out emblems, I have got to admit I wasn't to crazy about it before but when I got a close up it looked quite stunning. I was wondering if somebody could show me how to black out the emblems. I have searched for this before but I have not come back with any positive results. I would really appreciate any feedback, thank you.

You can have them powder coated. Or go the cheap route and spray paint them. I thought I saw a good write up on how to spray paint it and make it look fairly decent.

1 take off emblems
2 clean well
3 scuff up with sand paper
4 clean well
5 spray a couple of coats of paint letting throughly dry inbetween coats
6 I also sprayed a couple coats of clear

should last a good while if you take your time and do it right.

Thank you so much I will definitely think about which way to go, but I would like to know do both powder coating and spray painting have around the same life span. Will they both last around the same amount of time. And approximately how much would it be to powder coat Thank you again

I don't think you can powder coat them unless they're metal. If you want super quick and easy, go to a sign shop and ask for some scraps and cut out to fit.

You can not powder coat anything that will not with stand heat from placing it in an over, that's how powder coating works it's baked. As for the emblems paint will be only way. Its to easy to not try it yourself. Why dont you try painting it yourself and if it doesn't work get a professional to redo it. The price will not be more especially on a small item like an emblem.

I thought the emblems were iron or billet. The one I got for my grill was. Weighed 5-10 lbs. Or at least it felt like it. That's disappointing. I would never think GM would make their emblems with plastic. Mine was the GMC emblem for the grille.

Plasti-dip works too. If you don't like it, just peel off. I did my wheels with the stuff.

Plastidip works great. You tube it. It's at lowes or home depot about 5 bucks a can. Stuff is amazing.

Is it the GMC logo like on my 06 Yukon? I just did mine few weeks ago. Make sure you pop out the red inserts to paint them, dont try taping around them. If you dont have a heat gun stick it in the oven for a few to loosen up the glue. Be careful not to go too fast when removing the inserts, the plastic breaks easy. once out wash em real good, dry and sand with 600-1000 grit real well wash again and lay em out and do your thing. I had to sand mine afterwards with 1500 and polish them out because of orange peel and some dust. If ya have any questions message me.

Here is mine. Ironically just plastidipped mine tonight. Just taped off the chrome and sprayed. I'm sure there's better ways to do it like posted above but I'm lazy lol. You can also buy pre-cut laminate off eBay or pick some up from a local sign shop....anyways.....

@mharders - it looks good. I actually taped mine off first and wasnt happy so I did the long version of it lol.....I chose gloss black and polished it out after I had it smooth as glass with 1500grit paper. Came out awesome, it matches the paint on my Denali. Yours taped up came out way better than mine did. Good Job man.

I am going to do this.

How do I properly remove the grille emblem off my 2002 burb?

I'm afraid to crack it.
