Greetings from Ontario, Canada!

Been driving Yukon's and GMC trucks for 30yrs. Always been a GM kindda guy!

Currently have a 2016 Yukon Denali XL with nearly 200,000 miles on it - runs great. 6.2 purrs like new.
Other then basic maintenance, and some TLC with the differentials - it's been a great truck the hauls a family of 6 + wonder dog bag/forth to Florida several times year.

I've been starting to do research for the next one that I had planned to purchase this Fall. I typically buy them 1-2yrs old coming off lease.
Figured with all the issues the 21-24's, it would be the perfect time to find a 25.
However, I read the 25 & 26's are no different - both the 5.3 & 6.2 still struggle with issues.

With the kids off to college, don't need the XL - so I find myself looking at alternates like the Toyota Sequoia .. I just can't !!!
Perhaps these issues resolve with the coming 27 models, but I can only imagine what the price tags will be!

Given my 2016 has AFM that's never had issue .. is this an overblown thing with these engines, or should I not be planning on getting 10yrs, 200,000 miles anymore from them?

Blows my mind that at today's pricing these trucks can be anything but as solid as they've been in a past time.

Appreciate any comments and insight!

Greetings. From Nova Scotia but I have lots of family in your part of the GTA.

If you’re ripping down to Florida all the time, why not get the diesel? You’d only need to fill up once! Lol

Hey there! My oldest daughter lives out in Halifax, beautiful out your way!

I'd get a diesel in a heartbeat - love the torque, and the current high prices don't scare me!
The issue is .. I've had a diesel SUV before, a BMW X5. These North American diesels are packed with so many emissions that I've been cautioned by diesel mechanics that they are prone to all types of major failure issues after 100,000miles.
I'm told the reason you don't see the 10yr old diesel suv's on the road is b/c they wind up oversees in markets where the emissions get torn out and the lifespan actually becomes 500,000 miles.

Of course, I'd love for someone to tell me this is exclusive to BMW, Porsche, VW, etc.

Hmmm - yeah seems like a crapshoot. 6.2 might blow up, diesel could have gremlins. What kind of L/100km do you get in day to day driving with the 6.2? How about when you boot it down to Florida?

I can easily get 9.5 on the highway with the diesel at 128 on cruise…. 9 or less if the highway is flat. I don’t think I’ve ever filled up worse than 12L. I currently have a ‘24 XL SLT w/ diesel. I’m looking at upgrading to a ‘26 Denali XL. Most likely going diesel but I did Ty with going 6.2 and if I do I’d want as recent of a build as possible to get away from the mid 2024 recall cut off and hopefully benefit from continued production improvements, if there are any ie - factory order.

Also, a lot of people buying the 6.2 get those Range or Carbide modules to deactivate DFM and auto-stop. A lot of 6.2 owners think it will help reduce chances of the lifter/crank failures.

Welcome to the Forum from NH.

Lots of knowledgeable folks here who freely share their knowledge, experiences, and perspectives. Knowledge is power.

I hope that you will become a participating member in the Forum's discussions.

Pics of the truck, please.

You are already receiving sage advice from the knowledgeable folks on this Forum.

If it were me, I'd probably stick with what you've got, because you know its history and maintenance record.

If you have not deactivated the AFM with an OBDII dongle, I'd suggest that you do that.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I will gladly add some photos of my 2016 Denali XL when I get her cleaned up on the weekend.

Stopped by a GMC dealer in Mississauga today - dealer is known to be the highest volume dealer in Canada.
Asked their lead sales guy about his opinion on 6.2 & 5.3 issues .. looked at me like a deer in headlights; "sold 100s, never heard of an engine failing"

Asked if there are any warranty extensions being offered re the issues he's never heard of.
Said on the 25's yes, on the 26's no. The 25's get 250,000KM, 10yr warranty on powertrain - but he's never heard of any issues.

He went on to tell me that "people just want these SUV's, they don't care about what the internet says."
"If they're in the market for a $120K truck, they aren't keeping it long enough to care.

I suggested that my record of keeping them 8-12yrs makes me a unicorn - he agreed.

Yeah I’ve probably talked to them. I’ve called almost every dealer from the GTA east to Halifax lol.

Some sales guys will straight up say they’d avoid the 6.2…: some shoulder drug. Can’t say it’s a nothing burger but the internet is filled with people of negative experiences. The other 9 out of 10 happy ones are off doing their thing and not posting about it.

Not sure what the 5.3L issues are in the newer trucks.

We rolled the dice on a 25 Tahoe HC with the 6.2L. Figure if its not fixed we'll rebuild it. Or have it rebuilt. Also running 5W30 just in case. The DFM defeat devices do not work on the 25's. You can set it to Manual L9 to stay in 8 cylinder mode. You can also turn off Stop/Start. Both settings revert back when you start up. There is no indication of what gear you are in or how many cylinders are active. The tachometer, oil pressure, and speedometer are the only indications of what its doing. The 25 Tahoe HC is an awesome beast of an SUV. Its our road trip vehicle.

Was thinking of getting a newer Tahoe but changed my mind and keeping my 2016 indefinitely. Have 206K miles on it and AFM is still enabled. Had it serviced recently and my mechanic said just keep trucking. Plan on 3 trips from Miami to NYC this year.

Welcome from Miami Beach&Queens NY!
