Anyone running HID backup lights?

I need to know how to do it and where to mount ballast? What size is the bulb for 2001 Tahoe?

Not sure what the purpose would be, but one of the biggest issues I foresee is that unless you want to quickly fry what I imagine will be cheap ballasts, you're going to need to run something to delay ignition ... otherwise they will fire up every time you switch in and out of 'park' on your transmission.

Running a self contained auxiliary (halogen) backup lamp is not only going to be easier, but also a more reliable and more effective way to achieve additional backup lighting.

Let me guess, you can't see through your tint?

I just got 5% percent to hide my subwoofers. I can see through the tint at night, but it is very dark. I just saw it in the Tech Info section how to do the reverse hid. My tails are very dark illegally smoked so I figured the hid would shine brighter through the film. I'll get a backup camera, but don't really think it will help much?

These may be better for you. Someone on here has a posting of these and they are very bright. Then also you may want to strip some of the tint off the reverse lights, hell they may be to dark for your brake lights also, well be careful because if you get rear ended, you will be at fault.

And even the best led bulbs can't overcome dark tint and provide usable light.

Btw, if your bulb is a 7440 you could always use these: http://tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=40029

But they're $100 and only really worth it if you untint the reverse part of your lamps.

I can't find it at the moment, but someone did a 35w HID/55w halogen combo bulb retro for reverse lights. I want to do a similar setup, but haven't just taken a day to wire things up. Can't remember who did it, but it's on here somewhere.

I'm getting some new red led tails and they will be lightly smoked. Might as well say mine are blacked out. The shop that that did them called it smoked, but it is much darker.

Ok, here is the guide to turn the HIDs on with a separate switch so you won't ruin the ballasts and you will still be able to use your halogen bulbs.

I already checked those out, but I assumed they were just bright when looking at them from outside the car. Do they really help vs. stock when backing up? I'll probably smoke the tail and leave the reverse part clear, but still rather it be one color.
