Anybody else less than enthusiastic about the direction Chevy is taking with the Tahoes and suburbans?

If that happens, I'll switch to a new SUV. Hell, even just a non-DFM 5.3/6.2 is all I want. Now if we're getting crazy, imagine a new 2500 Suburban with the L8T and solid rear axle.
I was just browsing, and a mint 1985 suburban actually sells for what it did in 1985 lol Of course, in 2025 dollars it did depreciate 75%. But some vehicles are essentially worthless as 1985's. I'm talking over $15k.

Interesting discussion here. So I have 2 GM SUV's. I have a 2003 Z71 suburban that has 297,000 miles on it and a 2023 Denali. I bought the new rig because I was certain that my 2003 was going to die any day. Well 2 years later the 2003 is still going and that is what I drive most of the time. I love the interior of the 2023 Denali, except for the stupid rear entertainment screens. I love how the Denali rides and it has awesome power to tow my boat over the mountains. However, I much prefer the off road capability of my 2003 Z71 that can go about anywhere. I have actually considered trading the Denali in for a Ford Expedition Tremor which would have that capability, but the interior of the ford is bad, and it only has a V6.. I wish that GMC would have made the AT4 with the Denali interior. The AT4 interior is really cheap given the expense..

In going with the AT4 in order to avoid the pano roof and rear entertainment screens. At least I think I can avoid the pano on the ‘26. There are a few package changes. Waiting to hear from my dealers order person.

Funny, Car and Driver just tested an Expedition and a Yukon Denali. The V6 Ford was faster and towed 1600 lbs more.....

unfortunately the interior dash setup on the Ford is really bad (IMO)
Have you seen the 2025+ AT4's? The interior is identical to the Denali's (minus the color). You can get air suspension, any engine option (including diesel), and basically build it out to a Denali spec with AT4 capabilities

The Expedition dash is hideous, I can't believe Ford actually went into production with it. The outside is really nice though, and the 440hp and 510 torque is pretty crazy from a V6. I am also not a fan at all of the Denali dash either. It seems to me that between GM or Ford, the last of the good SUV's are between 2018 - 2020.

The reason we keep going straight to these is there are far more out there then Fords.

Yes but the V6 EcoBoost Expedition probably had 4 recalls before delivery and has accumulated another 2 since ownership. I have driven both and IMHO the build quality in the GM trucks is far superior. Just something as simple as closing the door tells you a lot about a vehicle. The fact that Ford is on recall #3 for the same rear view camera issue tells you something about QC and supplier quality. My FordPass App worked probably 60% of the time compared to MyChevrolet App working 99% of the time. The other reason the GM trucks are so popular is curb appeal, more customers (not everyone) prefer the look and feel of the GM trucks.

But that Ferd won't be on the road as long without massive maintenance and repair bills.

If Jocko's Denali is a 4x4, it ought to be just as capable is his 2003 Suburban, if not more so. Tires excepting of course.

Is anybody less than thrilled with the direction Chevy is taking with the Tahoes and suburbans.?
I mean the designs are looking less truck like. If I wanted my truck to look like a traverse or equinox, I’d get one. The technology is nice but with the new tech, they’ve taken away the things I bought the trucks for. The locking diff is no where near what it used to be. The internal tech is not always reliable. The engine and lifter issues are a disaster. The navigation system was better with the SIM card. Ground clearance, haha. The gas tank has the capacity of a large sedan. They are imho becoming more like station wagons. No tow hooks or a means to put them on? Except for z71, ridiculous. Mandatory sunroofs with towing packages!
Maybe I’m wrong.
I have three of the big gm suv since 2006… right now i have a 24 yukon and a 25 1500 gm. I really think the drive between the two is even. The radio.. tech if you call it that.. shuts off in either unit after the start.. maybe three or four times.. that is quality.. not fixing it after a year.. is a gm problem.

The 5.3 in my 05 yukon was 16mpg or so. The ‘24 is around 21 mpg. My ‘06 was $38k. My ‘24 was $78k. That is a real problem..

Would i buy another gm big suv? Probably. I had two ecoboosts.. one had five oil pans.. the other had coolant leaks. As an example, the ‘22 ford the front window was set in 1/2 high on the drivers side.. the hood and fenders were all misaligned.. its terrible. 5 recalls too.

I think no more turbos… on the gm 8s you have to have a cache can and run a valve stem cleaner every oil change. I can deal with that. It ain’t great.. but doable…

I absolutely love my 2024 Tahoe and think the improvements are awesome!
Magnetic ride, air suspension, 360 cameras, ventilated seats and adaptive cruise make the driving experience so much better.

The only downside is the price but it’s worth it!
It took me a long time to accumulate enough disposable cash to buy this without borrowing money.
A motor vehicle is an absolute necessity for most of us but also the worst investment especially financed.
Prior to this purchase I never bought anything higher end or anything with expensive options as it is not a good financial decision. I was smart enough to know that if you can’t afford a vehicle without financing it is better to buy something in your price range.

At 70 years old I am enjoying the luxury and performance of these latest high end trucks and they are definitely worth the price.

Some of the older models are great reliable trucks but overall the GM SUV with V8 engine is bigger, rides quiet smooth, faster and better fuel efficiency than the previous generations. And the previous generations were awesome!

The Ford version is making more horsepower and torque but they are doing it by pushing the limits of a 6 cylinder and that technology has a price of long term reliability.
I drove the new Expedition but it is not on the same level as the GM, in fit and finish as well as handling and ride quality.

GM is the only manufacturer that even has V8 engines as standard equipment and besides the issues ( have to add that every one the big truck makers has quality control issues) the V8 motor is one of the best things about it.
I love the rear 4 tail pipe exhaust, the sound and especially the performance!
I tow a 6.5k boat/trailer, haul gear and take my wife out to dinner and feel like we’re in a tricked limo and we are!
Ever check out what celebrities, pro athletes and powerful leaders use for ground transportation?

Escalade or Suburban is the those elite people use for safety, luxury and space. Land Yacht is a great term.

I'm not quite 70 yet, but I'm at the point that I enjoy these new vehicles and all their improvements. I most certainly realize that they are a terrible investment. But the fact of the matter is.... I frankly don't care anymore. Having a decent new vehicle is one last joys of material goods that I'm really interested in. It's a great feeling to be able to take a 300 mile road trip and not be wore out by the time you get there, then be able to take the whole family with you to do what you want. Not worrying about weather or if your vehicle charge will make it....
Don't have a lot of toys and not really interested in maintaining a bunch of stuff anymore. But I am interested in having a great vehicle and taking good care of it and if something better comes along in three or 4 years and I'm still here by the grace of God, I'm gonna buy it.....

Well said!
The joy of driving is one of the best parts about the new generation Tahoe/Yukon. Before this Tahoe I was adverse to driving when I was not in the mood.

When my wife asks the question “hey can you go out and get me….”
I already answer “absolutely!”
I love driving this Tahoe so much I look for an excuse to drive it!

Also as you mentioned, it is wonderful feeling after a long drive to feel good and less fatigue due to quality ride and not have sweaty back or shorts when the weather is ******.
