Airaid Jr installed. Question about resetting computer

The instructions say to remove the negative terminal for the install. I didn't since I don't see the logic unless it allows the computer to reset/relearn the new intake.

Those that added intakes, did you remove the power to the car(neg terminal) or is this unnecessary?

Then my battery went dead....... the equivalent of disconnecting to reset.

Same difference ......... same performance.

Jenna - The tune won't be until later this summer, after I get the cat-back installed. Am I good until then or is it recommended to let the computer reset?

You won't see many benefits from it, until your engine knows what to do with it. Also, there is nothing to really be done for the exhaust tune wise, as they don't offer any performance benefits, just sound and aesthetics.

Jenna just out of pure curiosity, does the battery being disconnected even effect the vehicle computer?? I wouldn't think so bc if doing that DID help the computer relearn, under that same reasoning, wouldn't anytime the battery was disconnected, it would then affect a custom tune. I just don't see that happening.

The reason for disconnecting the battery is when your done with the install and you
re-connect the battery it will then reset the computer so it can re-learn quickly.
NOT doing this the computer could see something different.

The OP did not mention if he had any codes.
The logic would be to go by the instructions, at least you would be doing what's suggested.
The only inconvenience doing this is you would have to re-set the clock and radio stations.

It resets all the learned functions, so it essentially starts from scratch.

The only actual air flow gains you get with this AirRaid JR kit is with the air filter supplied.
The tube only smooth's out the air flow, this helps a little but very minimum at best.
The air flow still has to travel first thru the short smaller section that the MAF sensor is in..
You could go with just a aftermarket air filter and not really notice any difference.
Doing a dyno it might show but very minimum gains if any.
Most defiantly NOTHING by the seat of the pants testing, by comparing the two.

Yes, it sounds cool without the resonator and looks cool but if a person is on a tight budget there is a lower cost way to actually gain more air flow and power. Then when $$$ is more available you can spend it to sound good and feel cool.
There still are a few people that live week to week and have a tight budget.

The issue on the stock intake is not the filter and box, it is the Helmholtz tube. To decrease the sound of the intake air, the is tuned to a specific frequency which causes airflow disturbance.

The dyno doesn't lie. Keep in mind, our testing was done on one vehicle on the same day, same conditions. The results were without tuning.

I'm pretty sure you would be impressed with the results, even with only having the DIY mod you would be impressed.

I did the Airaid Jr. and also incorporated your airbox mod this weekend. I can feel a "seat of the pants" difference...

The dynos show the most improvement was gained from changing out the intake piping. That is where the restrictions are, so any upstream changes will have relatively minimal gains. In the end the gains are relatively low.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for DIY performance mods and have done quite a few on my vehicles. Since I am cheap and have little time to work on vehicles I have to be efficient in choosing my mods.

I applaud those who try various things and share . If someone would like to dyno the larger intake hole, versus aftermarket, versus stock that would be great . IMO the results will be similar to the dynos already performed.
