I had to replace our ac condenser after I punctured it putting in our transmission cooler. I didnt think about replacing the pag fluid as i really didnt even know about it. Well of course our compressor shot shit 2 days ago so now i will be replacing it. How much pag oil do i need to put in the system and where at? I know i need to drain the compressor oil and refill it

Pag-46 oil
For compressor replacement add 2 oz
For condenser replacement add 1 oz
Total oil capacity 11 oz (majority stays in accumulator and evaporator)
Some new compressors have oil in them already
Refrigerant capacity 49 oz

You could add oil safely to accumulator/drier, would need new o-rings if you break the seal though. Light green ones at auto parts stores.
Then bolt everything up, vacuum the system, and refill (ideally) r-134 by weight.

Also how do I vaccum the system and for how long? I took the compressor off the other day, so it has been open for probably 3 days

If you are only changing the compressor and condenser, you only need to add 3 oz of oil. Im pretty sure you can also add oil via the low side pressure port. Not 100% sure but you may be able to dump it into the compressor too. Id say the stuff in the compressor is the correct type and may only need to be drained to measure amount.

Vacuum pumps are available at stores like harbor freight, or can be ordered online. Its a lot easier with a professional machine like a shop would have, they can inject the oil and r134 perfectly by weight. May be worth it to put it together and take it to a shop and let them vacuum and charge it for you.

OK I might do that. Yeah I had to replace the condenser after I put a whole through it last week. It drained all the freon out of course and some oil came out since it was all over the lower bumper.
Then 2 days later the clutch on the AC compressor went out after I refilled the freon, but didn't add oil as I didn't know about it at the time.

So now the compressor has been off probably 3-4 days and when I took it off, of course all the freon leaked out again from undoing the lines. So there might still be oil in the system, I really have no clue as this is my first time doing anything A/C related

How would I know if I just need to add the 3 oz of pag for sure? Is there a way I can check the accuumulator to see if it has oil?

Just trying to figure this all out before I put on the compressor, so I know how much and if I need to add more oil or what before closing the system up

You'd have to dump the oil out of the accumulator by removing it and turning it over. Even when a vacuum is applied, the oil wont come out. If all you took off was the compressor and condenser, youd be safe adding just the 3 oz. May double check me on that but I'm pretty sure.
