I'm in the process of installing a new driver door power window motor/regulator in my 98'. I got it attached to the inner door panel and reattached to the window and door. Before I put in all the screws I decided to plug it up to the door panel switch and test it. It makes like it wants to move but stops immediately. the rear end of the door glass seems to try to go down, not much movement in the front. I observed this while trying to make the window go up and down. It goes back up of course but it's reached the top of its travel and can't go any further.

Has anyone experienced this before? Do I have something jibbered inside the door causing it to get hung up?

What kind of motor did you end up getting? Does it have enough juice to lift the window?

Is there an off chance that the regulator wheels aren't in the right spot? Make sure you didnt get the regulator wrapped around the door handle rod that runs from the exterior handle to the interior handle.

I guess anything is possible but the two linkage bars going from the lock to the latch and from door handle to latch are both moving freely and functioning as intended. I cannot see down into the door but I'm fairly certain all the rollers are in the tracks.

I have a crappy Chilton book and it doesn't list many details. I understand there's a coil spring to give tension to the apparatus to counteract the weight of the window, but can that be locked down by accident? I noticed the old one I took out had what looked like some kind of set screw or adjustment screw.

Try not to play with that spring. It can bite you, and bite you hard. Im assuming that you purchased a motor and regulator combo?

Measure it out, make sure you got the right parts. Another issue with aftermarket window motors, the motor is wired backwards half the time, I know mine is. Up is down, down is up. Mine functions backwards, but it still functions.

Getting the rollers in the right spot is key. It really sounds like you have a roller off the track that is hanging up on something. I know that even after doing many of these I still take quite a few stabs to get them lined up.

Feeling like a bonehead

Turns out I had the regulator/motor in right, but the mechanic who I paid to fix it found a bolt going through both regulator arms...for shipping purposes only. If any of you folks order a regulator/motor from LMC Truck make sure you take out that bolt. I felt pretty dumb after I heard that's all that was preventing it from working. The garage also offered to buy my truck. lol
