I'm swapping out the engine (new HT383E) in my 2 door 4x4, the transmission pan was dropped fro service since it's been sitting for a couple of years. This is the 2nd transmission and it has around 130k miles on it. There is an area that has jagged edges the mechanic wasn't sure what this is and neither am I. I did drive it to the shop and there were no issues then nor historically with the transmission shifting in any way. The jagged edges do not look fresh (shinny) and there were no evidence of metal particles or shavings in the filter or pan.

Here are a few pics. We're thinking since there were no known issues that I just drive it and see how it shakes out. I am upgrading the torque converter, and it looks like an intake and new fuel injection. Probably a Holley performance setup and headers.

I'd appreciate any advice on the transmission issue and recommended performance mods. This will be more of a toy, some trips, mostly as a light offroader and kick around truck.

Just dropped the pan on my 4L60E about a week ago and mine does not have that hole next to the filter gasket. But I didn't take pics.
