2025 Z71 distant dealer question

Greetings..I found a Z71 Tahoe equipped the way I want it. I've had several dealers in the Houston area searching for a couple of months. I found one 75 miles away. Have you ever bought not in your town? Were there issues with the warranty or maintenance when using the local dealer instead of driving back 75 miles. I know the warranty is supposed to be good at any dealer, but looking for people who have actually had experience as described.

I'd consider 75 miles to almost be local...some dealers will turn their nose up to you for not purchasing from them, but usually those are only the small, small town dealers. Any other dealer and there probably won't even by a discussion about it. But no, you shouldn't have issues having a vehicle serviced at a dealer you didn't purchase from.

if you felt the need to purchase locally, ask your local dealer about dealer trading for it....and you may even be able to buy it cheaper. generally the dealer with the vehicle can sell it cheaper, but not all dealers are willing do "deal" these days. we bought a gmc half ton last year from a local dealer that they had to trade with a dealer a couple hundred miles away. tried to buy it from the dealer that had it, they didn't want to go below invoice on it...

I tried to stay local, but I bought in '22 and getting your hands on a Suburban or Yukon XL w/ Duramax was a mini-lottery. Ended up getting a 1-way flight and drove about 400 miles back home. I've had zero warranty claims, but I did have one software update recall which I setup an appointment at nearest dealer and they didn't bat an eye.

I would think the close dealer would be happy with your service business. Don’t know if true but I heard there’s more money in service vice sales?

Have you discussed a dealer swap for the vehicle you want with the dealer you want to do business with? I bought a my 2021 Z71 from my local dealer that was a swap that just came in from from a dealer in Kenner, LA. My dealer had a different Tahoe that someone down there apparently wanted.

Thanks all....I did purchase a 2025 Tahoe Z71 today. I'm strongly considering an extended warranty. I've never bought a warranty on anything from a pencil to a house...however with the electronics these days and some uncertainty in the engines, I'm thinking about it. I'm getting the 5.3 not the 6.2, but still some uncertainty with this new AFM. This dealer only offers a plan through a company called Portfolio One Service Contract. I googled them and see mixed reports from really bad to really good. I have to make my decision by noon on 5/28 as that is when I pay for the car. Any experience with this company?

extended warranty.. wait, only get the manufacturer warranty just before 12k miles. Only benefit if getting warranty earlier would be car rental coverage of 10 days per incident. Todd Sutherland at Thompson Auto sells GMC and Chevy extended warranty very cheaply [email protected]

Again there is no reason to do it now, either before 12k (Lower Price) or before 36 month/36k miles… don’t push either window

Congrats on your purchase. About a month ago, we became proud owners of a 2023 Tahoe RST which we purchased from a dealer over 500 miles away from our hometown. The local dealers in San Diego, Orange, Riverside, San Bernadino, and LA Counties either didn't have what we were looking for or in some cases wanted to charge us unnecessary fees. I politely said "no", purchased plane tickets, flew up to Santa Rosa (where the salesman picked us up at the airport) and purchased from that dealer. No games, everything was as mentioned, closed the deal in less than an hour (we had done a lot of the process online or over the phone, etc.), picked up two sets of keys and drove home. Made a weekend out of it, so that was the icing on the cake.

Mine was bought four years ago 150 miles away from me, never returned to that dealer once for service. I actually used a dealer 1200 miles away in Florida for 80% of my service who took it in like it was his own. When I ordered my new one, I went back to the same guy 150 miles away and he treated me well on the new contract. Sure, they would like for you to come back to them, but I've never had a dealer that I hadn't purchased from give me any guff about "hey you didn't buy it here so you're last in line."

Like what we’re talking about a brand new truck with factory warranty. It’s not like you can sue for getting ripped off on a bad finance deal.

If that’s the question I’m asking myself when shopping for a vehicle,

I will not be buying that model vehicle.


And to answer the question, i would assume the state it’s registered in. But if i had a vehicle i had to consider activating a claim on the lemon law then i would consult an attorney — but that should no way or shape determine where you buy a vehicle. If all the dealers in your state are rip-offs, but one dealer a state over (or 10 states over, for that matter) has the truck you want at a fair deal, you should not be taking short end of the stick because you *may* or *may not* be buying a lemon and/or are unclear of the legality of such a scenario. Lemon law will apply if it fits the criteria, unfortunately if it comes to that an attorney should probably be consulted who would advise you.

This varies by State, so if a person is concerned about having the Lemon Law protection available, research of the particular States' Lemon Laws would be something you'd want to educate yourself about. Some States have Lemon Laws that apply only to residents of that State, while others don't have that restriction.

Personally I've never bought out of State directly, but twice my dealer has acquired (traded for) the vehicle that I wanted so I could buy it locally. Neither were out-of-State vehicles but he'd have traded if it was what I wanted, and possible. Obviously dealer cooperation and pricing varies.

I have bought several vehicles that the local dealer had transported in from other dealers so they were sold as their vehicle.

My dealer is 120 miles away, as my salesmen gets me pricing no one can beat.(and I have tested him after 6 purchases)
I actually found the Yukon exactly like i wanted at a dealer 5 miles from my house. My dealer transfered it to him and now I take it for service where I originally saw it. And they know it was theirs. Also tge service i get is OVER THE TOP. 110%.
The only negative there was 150 more miles on it from the transferring. LOL

Yes, I’ve bought out of town before. No issues at all — warranty work and maintenance were handled locally without a problem. Chevy honors the warranty at any dealer.
