Need some help with a power wire (plug) I found at the passenger footwell. I traced it into the battery compartment distribution panel (currently not connected).
I want to tap into it for a cb install. Dealer says it may power other items when I provide power to it (seems strange).
Anyone have done this already?

It’s number 4..

Maybe go to the dealer service/parts department, and ask if they can pull up the actual vehicle schematics (they do exist), and you should be able to trace it.
"Dealer cant tell me if this goes to other items" is really Dealer wont tell me...they have it all available to them in the system, just need to spend the time to look it up.

Honestly, though, if all you are looking to do is power a CB, should be able to tap the passenger side dash mounted fuse panel and find some power there.

It's a 125watt ranger ssb. Need a 30 amp. I am going to set a new wire from the battery into the existing firewall pathway. I have a 30 amp fuse on the positive and negative from the SSB. should work.

THe dealer gave me a diagram, but stopped short of identifying if it leads to something else in the car. I dont want to risk it..

Maybe it’s for the illuminated sill plates. Check to see if it has power when the dome lights are off.
The wire in the pass footwell traces back to the battery compartment 4th wire (not connected). I am going to look at the schematic provided, and see if it goes to another wire from the battery. Last thing i need is to burn out the suv.

6-796 has the X600 circuit shown on number 4. If you could follow the wires back to the body connector harness up above and see what pins it goes to it might help narrow the search as i don't see that specific connector but it obviously comes off the above circuit.
WOW.. I will look at this tomorrow. Have to say this is the golden book. Thank you for posting.

Look at page 5-13, 6-30, 6-738 and 6-955. The wire you are looking at is #642 a red/gray tracer from X50B battery distribution block to a x251L female connector at the passenger footwell for the E40 air heater only used for the LM2 Duramax option RPO C3A. It doesn't appear to have any fusing at the battery block but should be fine for your use and a 30A fuse installed there. Also, it does not go to anything else. It is #5 on your diagram actually.

Do you know the size of that wire, it should be 10 gauge wire to handle 30 amps. The intended load of that wire might have been very low, you could melt that wire and others in that harness before a 30 amp fuse would blow. I'd run a dedicated 10 gauge power and ground to power that CB.

The wire is 16mm2 or around a #4 - 6 AWG. Should carry 30A with very little voltage drop. Make sure you install an adequate ground.

Looking at using this connection for a small Amp instead of pushing through Firewall. Did you ever figure it out at the battery!
