2016 GMC GPS

Please advise. Why is there not a gps update for the older navigation system without android or apple car play. I can't use my phone to hear the navigation when I connect my phone to the "media" or my son can't watch dvd bc my phone takes over the audio on the media setting. Am I doing something wrong? I hate disconnecting my phone from Bluetooth while I'm driving but if I really need accurate GPS on a trip that's all I know to do.

No update you basically have to upgrade the HMI from a 2016-2020 if you want AA or car play, you can then get a wireless adapter and then you are as upgraded as it will ever get unless you go to a 3rd party head unit.
