Hi everyone, first post so sorry if it's not in the right category. Went under my car trying to find an unrelated noise my '13 yukon was making. I noticed this tube that seems to just be sitting there, with an open end. Is that normal, and what is it? Thanks for any info 1000013356.jpgIMG_20250912_122102.jpg

looks like the air vent for the transmission, so yes technically it should be present I just haven't seen one down that low normally they are mounted up a bit higher,
it allows the transmission to vent air, but also should not be placed where water or dust/dirt can get into it.
you will see the same thing for the rear diff and front diff if it is a 4wd/awd vehicle.
It very well could be in the right spot for your year/make/model, just haven't seen one mounted right there before.

it may have also originally had more foam filter around the end that has deteriorated,
kind of like you would see on a vocal microphone to keep spit out and block wind noise.

Breather hose ends want to be mounted higher (some have valves/filters on the ends too) to keep water out. I’ve seen guys who forded streams and introduced transmissions/differentials with water because the vent tubes popped off or were hanging too low. Can be bad news if you drive around like that for long.

I think that breather hose is supposed to live on top of your transfer case

Mine also fell down. No real idea what it is but suspect the heater box drain hose?
My transfer case and transmission vent end at the top center of the transmission. You can see one here, the other is hiding behind it.

Looks a lot like the transmission vent hose but like others have said, it should be mounted on top of the trans.
