My buggy has 204k mi., and I've been towing a 7k#, 30' travel trailer for a few years. The biggest issue is the sway at highway speeds. Most of it is when trucks pass by, and my rig gets pushed aside by the air pressure. I'm wondering what the best way would be to stiffen the rear end, and would tires simply be enough? I'm about due for a new set and will get stiff walled rubber. But I don't want to nickel and dime this for the next few years. Another option is to just trade for a 2500 sized truck with leaf springs.
Thoughts?

I vote 2500 with leaf springs.

Besides the stiffer leaf springs, you also get a higher payload (given), higher GVWR, a stronger transmission, LT tires, stronger rear axle, stronger front bearings/hubs, stiffer front suspension, stronger brakes and all the available fluid coolers which is better setup for towing. It will simply put you in a more comfortable margin on towing your travel trailer.

Drawbacks is reduced MPG because the curb weights are higher and a slightly harsher ride. But towing, those drawbacks become beneficial...

Drawbacks is reduced MpG ...
Compare the MpG WHILE towing. If a 2500 or 3500 gets 1MpG less than a 1500 when both are towing a long@$$ 7,000lb brick, who cares, really?

You're not going to fix an aerodynamics problem, with tires ALONE.
You can also get stiffer rear coil springs and swaybars, in addition to tires with a higher load index.
