Good morning,

I have an issue, my Escalade won’t shift into drive or reverse. Not sure what happened but could someone please tell me what might be causing this before I send it to the shop?

Likely the shift cable on the driver side of the transmission came loose it’s held on by a plastic clip that loves to break at the worst times I believe we drilled and put a cotter pin in my buddy’s or rigged something up to get him by but it was better then the factory plastic clip I’ve seen tow truck guys use safety wire somehow also

if the shifter is working normal and not all floppy like a limp noodle, or simply will not move at all then other possibilities are the shift interlink

Shifter moves like it should, so that’s positive
if the shifter functions like normal
then it's not the linkage and it's probably not the interlink either.
have you checked the fluid level?
does the indicator in the cluster move when you adjust the shifter? i.e P/R/N/D/....

Like in neutral, unsure

No noises from what I can remember

I think there was a code but can’t remember, battery is dead currently though

If brake pedal switch for brake lamps goes out it locks the shifter in P. Got brake lamps.

If you can shift from P to drive than it’s likely the shifter cable on the side of the trans. They get re-repaired many times before there’s nothing left to repair.

Here’s the OEM repair cable at its lowest price and free 2day shipping. Only replace this lower half as the upper half is a PITA to access.

Verify with a quick look to see if the shifter cable holder is un-damaged too.

Who here lives in Houston and is good with cars???
I'm something... mostly old crusty cars here but I may be able to direct him where to go.

What side of Houston are you on?

Secondly Was there a check engine light on the dash lit up?

Few notes:
1. Definitely check the fluid level, make sure it registers on dipstick, if not then low fluid will make no hydraulic pressure and no movement on any vehicle.
2. I have heard that if the harness going to the transmission or the internal harness has bad connection, or is screwed up by chewing on it, that these issues can happen as the valve body is electronic control, and even though the lever is moved, there will be no output out of the transmission at all.

My daughter’s Acura about the same year did the same . It was the brake lamp switch . Check your brake lamp bulbs if not working , replace . If still not working it’s the switch .
It locked the shifter

I hate to be the bad news guy but I will bet that your third gear clutch pack is burnt up. I am pretty sure that you are going to be looking at a tranny rebuild. Please let us know how it turns out.

Hey all, I appreciate the feedback on this and sorry for not updating sooner. It came down to AFEW issues lol

First - transmission lines were rusted
Second - the starter assembly

All in all it wasn’t horrible but a little expensive lol

But I have another issue/issues now

I’m originally from up north “MN” and sadly I have a lot of rust underneath from what I was told by the mechanic 3-4 times, I’m now in Texas.

Issue 1 - I need to replace the engine mounts but they were too afraid to take on the job because of how rusted the frame rails are, I’m assuming it’s the rails the engine is sitting on but I could be mistaken.

Issue 2 - rust or to be more precise frame rails, is it possible to get them replaced?

Issue 3 - the air conditioner is pushing out not hot air “it’s not hot out yet so it’s in between warm and kinda cool” I was told it could be the front or back unit and here’s the question, could I replace the front and back units myself, meaning the front control unit and back control unit and I could have air again?

Again I appreciate all the help and responses, it means a lot!

Shaun
