Traveling down the highway about 60 mph and the tachometer all of a sudden dropped about 500 rpm in its reading even though the engine continued to run fine. Traffic slowed to about 15 mph and the gauge dropped to zero.

Engines been running good, like normal, but the tach is off. No engine light or any other signs. I'm thinking it can't be the sensors otherwise the engine would be acting up.

Is it just as simple as resetting the dash?

I'm limited by what I can do. I gave the vehicle to my son who is away at college. I'm going to hopefully get him to pull codes, but we'll see.

Compare the rpms that a scanner displays vs. what the cluster shows.

It may not tell you much, but you could also look at the commanded/desired idle with the actual, both on the scanner.
