01 Yukon XL 8.1 resources?

Hi, new to the forum. Just bought an 01 Yukon XL 2500 with the 8.1 l.

Looking for resources and threads that focus on my particular vehicle. It needs some TLC.

I'm new to forums also. Always lurked over the years at different forums but figured I had better join one and ask for help more often instead of being stubborn trying to figure it out on my own. I have some mechanical ability but I don't know a whole lot. Trying to get off on the right foot with this vehicle. I purchased it to tow a toy hauler I have and want to make sure I can rely on this vehicle to get me there and back without a lot of drama.

Well, I'm up late and need to get to bed but wanted to throw this out there to see what advice you all might have. Like I said, I'm new to forums so if I look like a noob on here it's because I am. Thanks

No, I haven't, interestingly enough, I've never done that before. Thanks, I should look into that to get a better read as to what this thing has been through.

Um, all of the 4.8, 5.3, 6.0, and 6.2’s too...

Quick Question maybe your not consuming oil and just some phantom usage

how long do you wait or have the engine off before checking it? level ground too?

Without trying to hijack, has anyone tried a conversion from 5.3 to 8.1 on a half ton 2wd?

Welcome to the party! I have a 2003 Yukon XL 2500 8.1 that I use to pull a 26' 1948 Spartan Manor. I've traveled with it all over the west and for the past couple years I've been pulling it down south of Puerto Vallarta from Oregon in the fall and back again in the spring, about 5000 miles round trip. Performs amazingly well! Only issues I've had are with the transfer case encoder motor and dashboard cluster. Everything else is just maintenance and adding goodies. It gets between 8 and 9 mpg towing and about 12 otherwise. It uses a quart of oil in between changes. It has 160k miles and feels like it'll do at least that many again.

There are some good threads on here if you want to search for 8.1 or 8100. There's also a facebook group that Edward Cross runs with great info.

I'd be interested to hear your experiences with the tune and the thermostat, and how either one affected power, mpg, running and max temps, etc.
