Last fall I had a rusted brake line blow in my '03 XL (fortunately, no harm to people or vehicles). I then replaced EVERYTHING. It's actually quite easy. The dash cover comes off with no tools required. There are 4 screws holding the cluster in. You have to tilt the steering wheel down all the way, and move the gear selector down all the way too. There is a video that is very good at showing how to do it. Pretty... -

I plan on replacing the intermediate shaft when I install the new steering box....tired of the 'clunk'... was puttin off replacing the box, but I got hosed when the shop tried to take the slop out of the steering when they did the alignment. Messed up the shaft seal. Now, I have no choice...- sunrisor

Front end suspension/steering replacement?
last year on my '03 XL I used Moog problem solver parts (upper/lower arms, tierods, end links, idler pitman). Pitman arm didn't fit. Had to use Cardone. Anyone have suggestions on steering box replacements?- sunrisor

Thought I would update... Over the weekend, I opened the hood and found a puddle of fluid on top of the steering box. So, I decided to leave it alone for now. They did an alignment. I glanced at the numbers and they seemed ok, but will check more closely. I put on the ticket, that I wanted the ride height checked before and after, that way it would end up in the same place. We like (ok, the wife likes) the slight rake look. I just had my '03 XL worked on, had all Moog parts in. I wish I knew about the Moog pitman arm issue. Turns out the Moog idler arm didn't fit either. the shop put TRW in. Now the steering is really tight, and lots of steering corrections. Larryjb, is that what your steering felt like?- sunrisor

It's certainly worth it to keep trying. The TPMs are a sealed unit, battery not replaceable (unless someone here has a way). I read (here I think), that the battery lasts 8-10 years. I bought my Envoy in late '14 with 95k miles on it. There was nothing wrong with them, just figured they... -

It could be a dead battery in the TPM. I replaced mine in a '08 Envoy, when I had tires put on, figuring they were close to going dead. Not sure, but I think you need a special tool to reset/sync the TPMs. -

Just got my '03 XL back from the shop. I had most of the front end part replaced: upper arms lower arms tie rod ends idler arm pitman arm Tech tells me the steering box has a 'flat spot' in it. upper arms with poly bushings? Where? Last time I looked for tires, I found out there is no Firestone close to me. Hopefully I can plan it so I only have to do the alignment once. Anything under that much tension isn't fun. I've done alot of coil springs, and they scare the s**t out of me every time.
