    Floor Jack Recommendations

A retired iron worker that I know has a couple jacks (about his age) that have a very wide wheel track. They look very stable. Likely not to be found anymore.

    Floor Jack Recommendations

I noticed that many of their "Rapid" models have double plungers but not the "Super Duty" 3 ton Rapid model. Any idea what the difference is?

    Floor Jack Recommendations

Now that you mention that, I have a very large oak tree on the ground waiting to cut to firewood lengths that could donate a few pieces for duty. Solid concrete blocks are beyond my weight limit anymore. In any case, I always use double supports. I have to laugh that you mentioned cribbing. I...

    Floor Jack Recommendations

The only thing I worry about a jack is it's becoming scrap metal due to lack of repair parts. I don't get any part of me under a vehicle when the jack is the primary support. I do sometimes use the jack as a secondary safety backup when the jack stands are in place. Jack stands are (AUSCO) Auto...

    Floor Jack Recommendations

So, the last time I wrote about my NAPA Blue Beast floor jack was 2024 when I estimated it's age at 35 years old and it still lives with more TLC but, as previously suggested by members, I am starting the search for a replacement. My use is (residential) for the Tahoe and a Subaru, but more and...

    Protective masks?

Bringing this back to add spray can solvents; brake and carb cleaners. Are they considered organic vapors in the paint category? What is needed for that? It would be educational to mate some of the activities to 3M filter numbers.

[SOLVED] Hauling dirty/big things in Tahoe…

I doubt that consideration was given to seat designs with regard to loading them up when folded. I can envision some deformation of the cushioning (thinking on the backs). We don't have that issue because we had no 3rd row and the second row bench was removed as soon as we got out Tahoe. The...

Differential damage due to tire tread?

Sounds like a ransom. It's good to have a relationship established with private local companies and individuals. It is amazing the impact that a bit of cash or even the gesture of a box of doughnuts has when our mechanics (or tire dealer in this case) has when we are old "no charge". The...

    Painting frame

My mechanic suggested Fluid Film on some items but it sure leaves a mess because it doesn't dry. I have not reapplied it because of that.

How many miles is too many for used?

My '08 Tahoe started needing mechanical repairs in the high 80k's to 90k's and has been a demanding girl since. I don't know if it's normal because we never kept vehicles this long before retiring. Our previous Tahoe's AC quit at mid 40k's so it was traded back on the '08 during a fuel shortage...

Differential damage due to tire tread?

If the patch was the stumbling point why did they not just replace it with whatever method to their satisfaction? My shop does repairs and routine maintenance for free. I try to throw money at the owner but never get away with it. It would be time for a different shop for me in your situation.

Rear Suspension Lower Trailing Arm Removal

Yes Seriously. Haynes Manual says to jack the wheels off the ground, etc, etc. Wes's input is helpful for what I need to accomplish with the least strain.

Haynes Repair Manual (used) 24066-Chevy Silverado, Tahoe, GMC Sierra, Yukon 1999-2002 F/S - SOLD

Near give away. Looking for postage and a gallon of gas. Ten bucks should do it. Mainland USA only. Note covered years in the title because Haynes used the same book number for different years. Cover has creases but pages are decent and intact, a bit yellowed and a few notations. Binding is...

    Side Body Moulding Anchorage?

1/2" (03609) horizontal T & B and 7/8" (03615) vertical on the large recessed block on the rear piece at the door jamb. I probably didn't need two sizes as the majority of the contact areas are best suited to 1/2". I think the 7/8" will probably hold better where it was used rather than multiple...

    Side Body Moulding Anchorage?

The 3M tape worked like a charm. The front of the rear door piece (left piece in picture) was bowed outward about 3/8" and the rear of the front door piece (right piece in the picture) was out about 1/8" inch. Using a hair dryer made the bowed rear piece supple and it pushed right back into...
