Took the crankshaft back to the machine shop during my lunch break and showed the guy the scratches and he said they had to already be up there because the scartches have no burr...meaning the scratches had already been polished. He said that it shouldnt effect the rear main seal.

The machine shop I used cleaned it up pretty good compared to how it looked when I dropped it off when I looked at it when I picked it up I didnt notice it. Hopefully it cleans up when I get some time this weekend to work on it. Im trying to keep this rebuild at a minimum I would hate to get...

I will try the emery cloth and see if that helps. Im thinking this wont cause much damage. When I rub my finger over it I can barely feel the scratches.

    Bought core block

I thought I found a good machine shop I had them check the crankshaft afterwards they polished it and said it was good to go. And I doubt I damaged it during transport. I also decided to examine the camshaft to see if it could be re-used and it looks like one of the lobes has a bad flat spot.

That's what I'm confused about now I seen one article online that stated to hand tighten inner bolts then use screw driver or prybar then torque..the other one followed the same procedure you mentioned about torquing the inner bolts first pass then smacking the crankshaft with rubber hammer back...

Well the block checked out good still uses std bearings. Last night I got the main bearings installed and used a little assembly lube on them. Can the main cap bolts be re-used? Also the side main cap bolts?

    Engine Stumbling

This morning I went out and started my 2008 tahoe and I noticed the idle was shaky and the exhaust didnt sound right maybe because it was misfiring. So i went in grabbed my scanner and Im getting a P0171 / P0174. I have checked the intake for any lose hoses but I do not see anything. I checked...

    Bought core block

I dropped the block and crank off at the machine shop. While I was there one of the guys checked it with a mic. Said the crankshaft is good and will take standard bearings but just needs to be polished. No freeze plugs the screw ins should be fine. So the shop is doing cam bearings and checking...

    Bought core block

Most of the journals looked pretty good but there was one in question where I could feel just a slight roughness running my finger across it. And the area on the rear of the crankshaft where the rear main seal goes around is questionable. I forgot about Summit guys I havnt used that site since...

I felt it was a good deal I got everything except for the wiring harness and computer. Came with a engine stand. Over the last couple of nights Ive removed the heads, camshaft, pistons and crank. None of the bearings seem to spun everything looked good for a high mileage engine. Im going to drop...

Today I jumped the gun and bought a shortblock 5.3 included that seems to be from the 99-06 generation that I was going to rebuild just for a backup to go in a 2008 tahoe. The guy I purchased it from said it ran but burned oil due to high mileage.Im able to turn the engine by hand so thats a...

    2008 tahoe Silent Misfire

Well over the weekend I got tired of seeing the engine light so I scanned the tahoe and got a P0455. I checked around looking for leaks in the evap system but couldnt find any. I remember replacing the evap valve on the left side of the intake manifold with a autozone brand and remember it came...
