Do I wait for the 2027 MY to come out? Buy new now?

I'm getting pretty close to pulling the trigger on a new Yukon XL, Elevation with a lot of goodies.
This will be Yukon XL number 5 for me, and I've only ever had a 5.3
Yes, the 6.2 would be nice but frankly I just don't need a Denali, don't tow that heavy or often, and don't want to worry about 91 or higher.

The main reason to wait would be to see if the new 5.7 rumored to be going in these trucks actually happens.
I have an L83 and I'm sure the L84 would be just fine for me, and I'm going to a 10 speed from a 6, so more usable power band.
That said, I wonder if I should wait until we would know later this year.

Opinions anyone?

i got my '24 yukon slt with some extras... $8k off of sticker. you might a good deal at the end of '26. get a warranty if you are worried about the 5.3. i have four of them and they were all ok.

GM is already releasing pickups with 5.3 engines without AFM/DFM using engine VIN code "E". Have only seen it from two guys who just bought trucks, not in any publications as of last week.

So having said that, you might do a wait and see unless a really good deal happens your way.

I would wait. There may be many changes in addition to the new engines. That way you can be an early adopter and report to the rest of us how it all works out. I am thinking about waiting for a 2027 or 2028 myself.

While waiting to see what comes out is a good idea, keep in mind you never want to be the first year buyer of a new model, especially of a new engine.

That will turn you into the guinea pig class. All the issues the new engine people experience will be rectified the following model years and you will be stuck with the first batch. Its GM's way of saying "Thanks for being the first to believe in our products".

If time is not an issue, wait and see what they announce for 2027 and then determine if you are fine rolling the dice or secure a deal on a remaining 2026

I agree with @Protect1989. I'm not too keen on purchasing the first year of a model series change, as I don't want to be the guinea pig, either.

My 07 was the first year of a model series change, and I purchased it long after it was new. But, I can see the history of changes/improvements/fixes that GM had to apply to that model year in future model years production within the model series. Nothing new here, I know, it happens all the time. But.......

Yeah, we currently have a first year T1xx Suburban, but it was four years old when we bought it, so what ever bugs there might have been have mostly been ironed out by now. Therefore I didn't hesitate buying it.

Yep, learned about it over on the SilveradoSierra forum. Now there are some articles coming out about it. No AFM components, unlike during the Covid chip shortage.

ALL of the American pickup truck manufacturers have been spotted in the wild testing fully deleted diesel trucks too. Freedom is coming!

The new EPA has eliminated the requirement for the evil engine stop-start. I would verify that your vehicle will not have engine stop-start. The gadget to disable engine stop start is only around $100 but the installation time is also a consideration.

Amen to that brother on both counts

Waiting on a new model is a wise choice and there will certainly be incentives to move existing models.

I understand from reading this forum, eliminating AFM/DFM doesn't eliminate engine failures it just postpones them a while?

All engines will someday wear out and fail. If you turn off AFM/DFM in the tune, the hardware is still there but generally speaking, will last a lot longer than if it was active.

After I turned mine off, I was all set to remove it physically but ultimately decided against it. Truck has over 220K now without issue.

AFMs worst enemy is dirty old oil and oil that does not meet GM specs.

I had a 2015 with the 5.3 and AFM was never disabled from day 1. Engine ran perfect the day I traded it in with 170k miles.


I don’t plan to disable the AFM on my 2026 either, I’ve had luck with just changing the oil every 5k with a high quality synthetic. I don’t go by the oil life.

The main issue with buying an existing model for me personally is that the odds are I will never find the exact color and option configuration I want. But that's on me because I have a very specific build in mind.

Past cadence seems to be minimum 1 year after the Sierra/Silverado redesign for the Yukon/Taho redesign. If that holds true, 2028 MY would be the earliest redesign for the Yukon. But outside of engine, what would they come up with? Platform seems fresh.

I'd wait, because our 2025 HC was $4,900 more for 2026. You could have taken delivery late August for a 2025, and early October for a 2026, and seen the difference. Frankly, I would never simply just accept it. So, I would not want a 2026. But, maybe a person who doesn't know what a 2025 sold for, is ok with it. Answer: Wait for a 2027 and see if there are significant changes. p.s. to the person who said they can't find what they want, why not order, the price is not more when you order, same discounts. It's whether the dealer plays that game that custom orders cost more, because yes they want to move what they have. But if that were the case then there would be no such thing as custom ordering, which, on Japanese vehicles, there is not. my .02 and jmoymmv

There are OBD2 options out there. Zero installation time.
