Hi….I have a 1997 Tahoe LT 4x4, 4 door and I want to raise it for overlanding. I’d like to go 6” and a 1.5” body lift but then I read about suspension only lifts, spindles spacers etc. so what is the real deal. I don’t want just a body lift, I want a real
lift so can anyone guide me where I can find a kit and do the kits contain raised spindles or is that another additional way of lifting. I don’t mind adding the extended travel CD axles to avoid any binding or pre-mature wearing out or worse failing all together on a trip far off road. I’ve read to stay away from anything “Rough Country” so I’m hoping you guys have some direction for me. I’ve had this Tahoe from new and it’s got well under 100k miles. It’s worth the cost of doing it right. Also I’m not a kid, early 60’s and enjoy wrenching and welding……someone please give me some direction…

Some kits lift by spindles( BDS), other kits lift by lowing the A arms (Rough Country) both are different in price.

I just recently lifted my 2 door tahoe with. 6” lift from Rough Country. If you aren’t mechanically capable and have all the tools, don’t do it yourself. It’s very involved and you need several jacks, 30”+ stands, or preferably a 2 post lift. I can’t speak to a body lift because I have not done one. I did all the work myself in my RV space over several days, no help. Get a friend to help, especially with the front diff. And the rear leaf packs.

I watched several vids on YouTube about the Rough Country lift, very informative and helpful. Search OBS CHEVY ROUGH COUNTRY on YouTube to see for yourself. They do make it a lot easier than it looks though, and you’ll be tempted to do a lot of “while you’re in there” repairs or upgrades. Like converting the front diff to electric solenoid, and changing the gearing, or new hubs and axles, and bushings, like I did lol.
