    Remanned Alternator Whine

2005 tahoe Replaced alternator with a reman unit from NAPA earlier this year under warranty I got out of the tahoe to check the mail and heard this whining sound and wasn’t sure if this is cause for concern or if it’s “normal” in remanned units. I figured it shouldn’t make any noise but just...

PSA: Check Those Torsion Bar Crossmember Bushings

I’ve been chasing a popping sound coming from the driver’s side while turning in/out of parking spaces and while accelerating from a stop with the wheel turned. Replaced a bunch of suspension parts as part of a pre-planned overhaul project and was half hoping the issue would have been resolved...

Moog Dust Boot Question / Clarification

When I received the control arms, the boots for both lower ball joints looked completely dry and were somewhat folded / creased on themselves. The zerks were also not pre-installed but I’m sure there’s a way for the manufacturer to pre-grease the joints. What is throwing me off is that the...

Moog Dust Boot Question / Clarification

Long story short, I overhauled the front suspension on my 2005 tahoe when I hit 200k miles. I had torn lower ball joint boots, etc. so I figured I would just go at it all and give the front end a new start. When I installed the lower control arms (Moog CK620380/CK620381; purchased from RA), only...

New GM ISS = more slop?

Well, I replaced the GM ISS with a Dorman one this morning. No more clunk. I’m sure I got a one-off dud of a u-joint from GM but I’m still not happy about it. (Side note: I also replaced the steering bearing with a GM one when I replaced the steering shaft the first go around. Sorry, I should...

New GM ISS = more slop?

Recently replaced my intermediate steering shaft with a new GM (19329330) part and this thing has way more slop in it than the beat up one it replaced. I read around on the forum and saw the ISS design was updated at one point in time but wasn’t sure if this was considered the new “normal” with...

    Creaking /Popping Noise

What type of creaking? Is it like a door hinge creak (dull creak) or like when plastic rubs (higher pitched)? Not to question your mechanical ability at all, but was the bearing pushed fully into the column? And did you ensure that the steering wheel did not turn during the job? I just did the...

Looking for Testimonials Re: HM Oil

Just some additional info for anyone that may be reading this thread in the future, and who enjoy even more conflicting reading material: Project Farm did a demo on whether HM oils were "better" than regular oils. While his experimental designs are somewhat robust, he is unable to simulate...

    Repeat Vapor Canister Issues

All parts replaced during the fuel pump job were GM, ordered through RA. When the new GM canister threw pellets, I replaced it with another GM canister. I'll test the vent valve this evening and poke around the filler neck area if the vent valve tests fine. Thanks again for the input!

    Repeat Vapor Canister Issues

Thanks for the reply. I called it the purge canister; I've seen it named a number of things lol I don't have any codes stored but can test it later. It was also replaced at the same time as the previous canister.

    Repeat Vapor Canister Issues

Long story [not so] short my original vapor canister blew out on my tahoe about 2 years ago and threw carbon throughout the EVAP system. I went ahead and replaced all EVAP lines, the fuel pump (preventative), purge valve, purge canister, and vapor canister and all was good for about 6 months ...

    Water in Passenger floorboard

I went through this with my NBS; I’m not sure what sort of design changes went into effect in the HVAC intake area between the OBS and NBS bodies but feel free to take a look at my thread. I finally diagnosed mine after who knows how long, and confirmed it by running a water hose over the broken...

    Transmission!!!

I’d most likely go with the dealership if it was my vehicle as well, though the dealership you went to didn’t do you any favors (that would have been enough for me to write them off). That said, I’ve got family all around Pittsburgh. If you’re open to it just send me a PM and I’ll check with my...

What did you do to your NBS GMT800 Tahoe/Yukon Today?

Finally rolled over 200k miles this morning on a clear Saturday morning drive through the country

    Soft Brakes, New Day

Secondary update for the day: My driveway has a minor downward slope so I parked nose-out and lifted the rear end. I then went and bled the ABS module again and noticed a more prominent kickback from the pedal once it initialized so I performed the ABS bleed twice. Afterwards I went to the...
