A big difference that I saw between the two cases is the design of the front output. The Autotrac has the slip yoke in the transfer case much like the rear output. The part time (NP205) has a fixed output with the slip in the driveshaft.
Honestly I would recommend getting rid of the Autotrac...
The reason they said you need a cross member is because on the 4 door Tahoes the torsion bar cross member is suspended from two small links rather then bolted to the frame like on the trucks and 2 door Tahoes.
I know on my RCX lift I had to buy special brackets to use the existing crossmember...

If you do go after market, I would stick with a established company like TYC and avoid the ebay headlights. I am on my second set of ebay lights now and still need to replace them. The lens are yellowed after just over a year and the first set leaked so bad that the headlight filled with water...
Also another avenue if you do lift it instead of having a custom front driveshaft made you can swap in a part-time t-case out of a truck. I picked one up with a driveshaft for $125 and its a very straight forward swap. Plus i prefer the damn near bullet proof manual NP205 t-case to the junk...
