Ok I just wanted to update this thread about my Tahoe. I had it repaired. Turns out it was NOT the camshaft. Camshaft was absolutely fine. It was a broken valve spring. I had been driving it awhile like that and it never got any worse. Also had a couple bad lifters. Replaced lifters and oil pump...- kdubb30

Ok I found out that it’s the camshaft making noise. It’s also losing oil pressure so I just parked it. Don’t know what to do at this point. It will sit awhile I guess. I got a 2008 Impala SS I been driving.- kdubb30

Oil changed regularly every 3-4000 miles with synthetic oil at the dealer every time. Truck runs damn good though. It has good power and no check engine light.- kdubb30

I was wondering how you knew all that info...lol. I’m in Gulfport. But the trans only has about 100k on it since it was replaced by the dealer. I have to look at the paperwork. I guess the only upside to that price of 500 is I don’t have to directly pay anybody to pull it out. Should I dismantle...- kdubb30

Yeah I believe parting out the motor would bring more money. Should I have it pulled first? My plan is to upgrade to the 6.2? Should I keep some of the parts or just sell them all and buy a motor with everything already on it?- kdubb30

Yes oil pump was changed 9 months after the lifters were done. Not sure on if they used the updated lifters or not. I did have a guy offer me $500 for the motor and transmission but I think that’s to low.- kdubb30

What is a 5.3L worth if it’s bad???
Got a 2007 Tahoe 5.3 that started this tapping/rattle noise. It started all of a sudden. It runs fine and it’s not missing and it hasn’t lost any power. I took the belt off because it sounded like a bad pulley but the noise continued with the belt removed. Not sure what it is. Motor has 260k on...- kdubb30

2007 Tahoe LTZ 5.3 engine and transmission part out to upgrade
My 2007 Tahoe LTZ still runs great but the mileage(260k) is getting up there and I wanna upgrade to either a 6.0 or 6.2 and upgrade tranny to either 4l80e or 6l80e. What do you guys think the drivetrain is worth? Engine had new lifters and oil pump put on about 100k ago. Still burns oil with AFM...- kdubb30

Well I’m not gonna be able to get the Tahoe. The bank won’t finance anything with over 150k. This one has 168k. So no go for me. Thanks for everything guys.- kdubb30
